How to Ice Fish on Devils Lake

VIDEO: Want to ice fish on
Devils Lake, but don't know where to start? Learn where to find the
latest on public access points, trails, fishing reports and ice
conditions from Suzie Kenner, Devils Lake Tourism.

From North Dakota Tourism. "The North Dakota Game and Fish Department
echoes what anglers are seeing on Devils Lake. Perch numbers are solid
and the winter of 2014 should easily be one of the best winters for
perch that we have seen in more than fifteen years. The stars are lining
up with good ice, a great population of fish over twelve inches and
numbers of fish. Besides perch numbers that are getting attention, the
lake still remains one of the best walleye fisheries in the Midwest."

Know Where To Go and How To Catch 'Em...

[Where to Stay]

[Public Access]

Click here for a map of the convenient public drive-on accesses. Visiting anglers will appreciate the fish-cleaning station  located next door to Ed's Bait Shop (on Hwy 20 south of the City of Devils Lake). The 20 x 32 station, like the Devils Lake fishing season, is open all year. The heated building has two grinders, a clean-up sink, regular and handicapped bathrooms, and is free to the public.

[Fishing Reports]

1/31/14. The bite continues to be good! It's
all about finding that window and/or flurry during the day. Our best walleye action has been in 8 to 14 feet of water. We have caught walleyes all day but the bite is best just before dark (3-5pm). Buckshots with the minnow head have been the best, but we also have had luck with more subtle presentations. Perch fishing has been fairly consistent. The key is to find the active school. There are days they need a bit of coaxing and other days they really go! The size and quality of the perch is very special right now on Devils Lake; we have had many over 13 inches. Buckshots, Hali's, and dropper rigs tipped with a minnow head or waxies have been the best. Ice is thick and there are areas where extensions are needed. Trucks can still get around, but some areas are tricky. Good luck to all!! -Bry's Guide Service
