In-Fish PWT Announces Can-Am, Elaborates on 2008 Plans

The 2008 Can-Am - Dryden, Ontario, Canada
The In-Fisherman PWT today announced the 2008 Can-Am, an event which will essentially replace last year's successful PWT Super Pro event on Wabigoon Lake in Ontario.

The Can-Am will pit a Canadian versus an American team in what in what could potentially be an instant competitive walleye classic.

According to In-Fisherman PWT Executive Director Jim Kalkofen, Canadian organizers are excited about the cross-border event, especially at the prospect of fielding 25 of the top Canadian Walleye Pros versus the best the United States has to offer.

The Canadian team will feature 26 total anglers selected and captained by John Butts of Dryden, ON. The American team will be captained and selected by Wisconsin Pro Gary Parsons.

The Can-Am will feature a 150% payback with a $1500 pro and $750 Co-angler entry fee, and potentially an artificial-only event.

PWT Solidifies 2008 Plans
The In-Fisherman PWT will hold 4 regional events in 2008, as well as the 2007 Mercury Championship in May on Lake Huron's Saginaw Bay.

PWT Regional Schedule
May 28-30, 2008 - Mobridge, South Dakota

June 25-27, 2008 - Bull Shoals, Arkansas

September 11-13, 2008 - Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan

October 16-18, 2008 - Hudson, Wisconsin

The 2008 PWT Angler of the Year will be based upon the four regional event standings.

According to the PWT, it is unlikely that a Championship will be held in 2009 for 2008 qualifiers. Instead, the focus of the 2008 season will shift to the Angler of the Year race.

When questioned regarding the recent challenges with sponsors heading into the 2008 season, the PWT had no official comment but added that their promotional and advertising team is working hard on obtaining sponsors for PWT growth and advancement for now and into the future.

WalleyeFIRST expects to see an official press release which details these statements more completely as soon as early next week.
