What I would like to know is what prop would be best to run on plane at slow speeds without the front end jumping up and down. I don't care about speed or rpms or anything else. I have heard some opinions and would like some other peoples imput on this please.

Driving the boat at 3000 rpms you will not be able to trim the engine much no matter what prop your running. Steve is addressing this for you and when that process is complete, that prop you have will be just fine.

I understand that and will be doing that. Steve talked to Tina yesterday and we will get all set up. I would like to learn more about props and why some are for different situations. Thats the only reason I started this post. Sometimes I take my kids skiing and tubing. What would be a good prop to keep me on plane while still going slow so I don't wipe them out to bad? I don't know jack about props. I have never ran my boat at 3000 rpms.

Don't laugh at me on this question Kirt. What is a 21 tempest? Four blade or three? Does this keep you on plane at slower speeds? I also don't understand 21 pitch. What is the difference between 21 pitch or 23 pitch? What will 21 pitch do to the boat and what will the 23 do?

Took my 21 Rev4 off and met Andy yesterday afternoon. Put that on his motor, and proceeded to drive the boat with absolutely no porpoising. I started driving, and had the boat running at 25 MPH, and smooth as could be. Ran it at all speeds from slowest, to about 5 MPH faster than Andy ever had it, and the boat was under control, and never once porpoised. Andy drove the boat, and had a big smile on his face.

I'd still like to try a 19 Rev4. We were at 5400 at 57, and I think the RPM's could go to 5700 with the 19P, and maybe a mile or two moreon the top speed. Mine is about the same, but I'm getting 5200 at 58 MPH most of the time. My motor is down low yet, and his is up one hole. I think that is a bout right.

i ran my 1890 DW with both a Tempest (3-blade) and a Hi-Five (5-blade).
i found the Hi-Five to be about 4mph slower top-end, but much quicker getting on plane out of the hole, and much smoother running overall throughout the full rpm range (more blades = less "chop"). it also allowed me to run on plane below 30mph and did a very admirable job pulling a tuber or skier. with the heavy deep-v it'll never perform like a true ski boat, but that prop really allowed me to use it for the occasional family fun day.

I'm running a 21 High 5 on my 1890 w/ 200 Opti cause that's what was on it when I bought it. I've been thinking about changing props just to see if it will handle better or drive more to my liking. I've visited this site a ton (and posted a few times) and it seems like it's a Ford vs Chevy debate when it comes to which prop to run on the 1890. Some say the Tempest is best and others say Rev 4 or High 5. I know there's a difference in top end and hole shot but is there a big difference on how each handle? Also, are these the only 3 props that work well on the 1890 or has anyone tried other models? Just curious.
