The weather at launch was looking a bit sketchy, as winds had been up all night. When dawn broke, the winds shifted and dropped a bit. Reports on the pre-fish weren't good, the weather has been tough and clear water hard to find, so many of the teams struggled and feel catching a limit should be a primary goal.
When asked what it will take to win, most did say 30# a day.
Forecast: Mostly cloudy, winds out of the NW to 5 to 10 MPH. Temps in the 60's.
The launch was 'first safe light', and check in is at three Eastern, so the fishing day will be about a half hour short for the field of 49 boats.

Matt Davis and Dan Geis lead the MWC Championship after day one with 30-05 and lead by one good fish. Even though a good weight, 30-05 is a surprisingly light weight for the lead on Erie at this location and time of the year. The bite has been tough due to some crazy weather and wind according to the teams on the stage today.
What's even more surprising is just under 20# is top ten.
Tourangeau and Neubauer are second with 24-03. Third are Whitson and Campeau (24-00), fourth are McCardle and Valleskey (23-02), and Peters and Lewis round out the top five (22-12).
The teams reported the bite improving, and the reasonablly stable weather tomorrow may help. Saturday looks like rain, and a South wind will be cranking up to 23. Nasty, but better than Northeast.
The Championship field will leave Huron at first safe light tomorrow, somewhere around 7:30 AM Eastern.
