We had a great meeting with Adam Nickle from the DNR the other night on the health of the Winnebago system. The Crappies had a great hatch in 2016 and we should see awesome fishing for them in the future. The $100 reward tags have had 55 returned so far out of 210 Walleyes tagged and the exploitation is running about 30%.
The marsh projects we have been completing are vital to continuing strong year classes and even more so when we have low-water years. Water flushing the fry out is crucial to keeping the population up with this level of harvest. Roughly half of the Walleye harvest is on the lakes and half on the rivers from what he has determined. The increased vegetation in the system has really helped the panfish hatches which has helped provide greater forage for the Walleyes.
The numbers of 14' to 18" fish kept recently have been pretty high and the DNR is watching them closely. The forage numbers overall are pretty high which may make Walleye fishing a little tougher this year.

I would like to thank all our members and sponsors for their support which allows us to complete the projects we have done and have planned for the upcoming year!

I hope to see everyone at the banquet tomorrow night!
