Location: Rhinelander

The weather is ever changing on Devils Lake this week, and today is no exception. A front pushed through last night with strong winds, but the tournament hours look to be OK today with winds going from NE to NW and the strongest at 16 MPH at 3PM, when the weigh in begins. There's a chance of a storm this mid morning.

The AOY battle between mark Courts and Korey Sprengel is notable...1 point separates the two Pure Fishing pros.

The bite has been as good...and as tough... as expected, with LOTS if walleyes but the big fish scattered. From our interviews this morning, it looks like there are a few pros 'pushing the limits' as to getting to water they feel will produce a few bigger bites.

All the standard techniques are in play from rip jigging the bridges, trolling cranks, pitching, and slip bobbering.

The weigh in will begin at 3 PM, and should wrap up in a couple hours. Watch for a full report this evening!

NWT coverage is brought to you by Lund Boats and Mercury Outboards!

Lund pro Chad Schilling came in VERY early mid morning with 31.18, followed not to much later by Scott Larson with 27.52, avoiding WalleyeFIRST's cameras in the process.

In third is Ed Stachowski with 26.41, fourth is Paul Steffen with 25.14, and Rick Olson rounds out the top five with 22.46.

The weather acted up as a cold front pushed through, and quite a few of the pros reported trying to return from a crazy trip to the Devils Lake nethers into a big wind. There was some equipment broken today.

By the way, if you watched the Tommy Kemos interview this morning, he made it there and back, and weighed in enough to keep him in the hunt.

The AOY contest is in the wind. It's WAY too early to even try to call that one.

No one talked much about how the fish were caught, but Chad said this morning he was 'going out jigging'.

The entire field fishes tomorrow starting at 7 AM, and the top ten at day's end fish the final day on Saturday.
