Walleye production in the lower end of the lake has been surprisingly low since the 2011 flood, said Mark Fincel, senior fisheries biologist. The culprit likely is a lack zooplankton, which freshly hatched walleye rely on as a food source. Without plenty of zooplankton fewer walleyes survive their first few weeks of life, which means fewer walleye surviving to adulthood.
