Janny and Papineau Secure Victory on New York's Lake Erie
Dunkirk, NY - In the sixth and final qualifying tournament of the 2005 Cabela's Masters Walleye Circuit season, the team of Jay Janny & Kim "Chief" Papineau came away with a sweet victory, make that two. Previously, they had four number two finishes in professional tournaments, but were never able to secure a win.

Papineau and Janny seemed to make up for lost time by not only winning the Dunkirk based Lake Erie tournament, but also secured the coveted Cabela's Masters Walleye Circuit Team of the Year honor.

But they didn't stop there. They found their place in angling history by smashing the previous MWC two day weight record of 68.40 by 3.13 pounds. "Chief and I have over 30 years combined experience, and this just really feels good," said Jay Janny of Eagle, WI. "Marge & Gary Pelkey and Ron & Vickie Goldapske really supported us in our goal. The Cabela's MWC is known for stiff competition, and it feels amazing to take Team of the Year among such a great field", said Janny. As for technique, the team relied on trolling dipsey-divers with crawler-harness' and a 15' leader at 100-110 feet. We find in clear waters that black, or any dark spinner blades, are very effective, said Papineau.

Papineau & Janny not only take the $13,000 first place payout for the Cabela's MWC Team of the Year, but also add another $12,000 for their 71.53 pound tournament win. They will take the honor of position number one at the World Walleye Championship in Prairie du Chien in the fall of '06. The number two team in pursuit of the MWC Team of the Year was the Wisconsin team of Wayne Butz and Don Frederick.

Accolades and $2,730 were also extended to the Pennsylvania team of Keith Eshbaugh and Jeff Behr for their winning MWC East Division Team of the Year. "One of the greatest honors we've had fishing as partners is taking the Division at Cabela's MWC", said Behr. "All year long we had Tim Waltz & Jamie Sherman behind us by a couple of points, but we finally pulled it out at Dunkirk. Keith had some custom spinners designed and had them hand painted black & purple. We knew exactly where we were going, and stayed with the game plan."

Trophies were awarded to the East Division Husband / Wife Team of the Year, Mark & Cathy De Deker of Larsen, WI, and the East Division Father / Son Team of the Year, Raymond & Ryan Johnson of Dearborn Heights and Taylor, MI. Big fish cash of $1,000 was paid out to Shawn Hannah and Kevin Lavers of Ontario for their day one 10 pound walleye. Day two honors and another $1,000 went to Todd Connor of Hopkins, MI and Mike Bringedahl of Fruitport, MI for their 11.11 pound walleye.

The Cabela's Masters Walleye Circuit concluded the final East Division tournament of the year with total payout of over $51,900, and a divisional payout of $4,202.
