| Purple Skeeter,
I'll be going up to Bay De Noc this fall. I scheduled my vacation for the 2nd till the 9 th of Nov for just that purpose, I'll be up there for atleast some of those days.
I'd love to tag along with you, I'll help costs or what ever. I'm pretty familiar with the area and have fished it on and off since being stationed up there in the Air Force in the '80's.
I live in the Sheboygan area, feel free to give me a call, my wife is always looking for ways to get me out of the house so no need for a kitchen pass.
Thanks for posting

| My first trip is October 22-27 and then October 30-Nov 3.
A couple of years ago, I made a post showing how to add LED lights to Church boards... anyone need the instructions again.

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Historically, the later it get the less traffic. The colder it gets the less traffic. Many get into hunting and put away their boats.
BUT, at least for me. I think I see a resurgence of boats and traffic after thanksgiving that I didn't see in previous years. That doesn't mean that it is crowded in late November just more boats. I'd call it crowded around holloween though. |

Location: Freedom, WI | The best time to fish is anytime in December before ice-up. November ain't bad either. I'll be up there every weekend from late October until ice-up and hopefully some of the weekdays too. As usual I'll be staying at the Terrace and will be willing to share info. I can share fishing hotspots, but I was told to keep quiet about the best place for pizza. |

| We stay at Bayview, the owners have treated us very well over the years. Breakfast Delora's or Delona's next door (walking distance in wind and snow). Dinner, pizza delivery if we can make it in by 1 am Eastern time. The McD's has seen us plenty times at 3-4 am. I'm always surprised at how nice they are to make us Big Macs at this hour in the morning.
After a 4 day weekend I usually become nocturnal. |

Main st. pizza is good too. I put it at a second behind the Saloon.
PS, never saw the pancake house. Of course, I try to stay out of Escanaba in the fall unless I'm heading to Hereford and hops or the boat landing.
Anyone hear of any reports from up there yet? Any day now, any day and it should start. |

| Cedar river is happening right now based on the Charter reports, any day now they should be fighting with each other and b&*$@ing about all the people like last year. |

|
| Cedar river has been hot since august. The big girls should start showing up soon I hope. Had some awesome trips in September. lots of 23-27 inch fish. Lower bay is probably just as good right now. Might have to try that. since perch haven't been cooperating on bago this last week. |

| I bet Menominee is going now too. Anywhere theres walleyes on the bay ther all putting on the feed bag. It's just pick your spot you like and have at it!!!! |

I believe that you are legal as long as you stay a certain distance to shore. Memory forbids me from remembering that distance. I believe it was something like 5 miles.
I have also received positive reports. Looking forward to sharing notes. |

Not staying in a hotel. I'll be staying at a friends house. I've got it lucky, his 2nd home is about 5 blocks from the Gladstone landing. |

| Purple and Glass Perch 80-105 back in the deeper water and Purple glass #11 Huskies plus the General worked well 3 out the 5 days in the shallow water. Lots of fish in the 27-29 range, a few 30"s. Wind kept us off the water all day Wednesday. Full moon and clear skies made it look like we were fishing in daylight. Fished 18 hours a day and slept 6....
On my last pass today, I caught a 29 inch Walleye that showed the marks from a gill net. The fins were all broken and bleeding and the skin looked like it had been caught in a Gill net will a criss cross pattern rubbed into it. We saw a lot more Gill nets this year than ever and they were right in the middle of where I have fished the last 10 years... Kinda breaks your heart!!
Overall, we had a wonderful time with friends and managed to make a few more memories.
Very low water conditions caused us to get stuck every day going in and out and waders were required. We spent 45 minutes one evening with a strong North wind blowing an additional foot of water just trying to get back to the dock.

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Thanks for the report PS. Is there a launch available to us that we do not have to worry about low water? I would like to take a trip up there next weekend but I will be by myself and launching the 2060 would be easier if I did not have to worry about waders and low water. |

| Bob,
There are a number of spots on Little Bay that are excellent launches.... but as far as Big Bay, unless you drive all the way around from Little Bay, I don't know of any.
My 1850 Skeeter was a royal pain to drag across te sand bars because we had a strong North Wind most of the time I was up there.
I'm headed back up on Tuesday to stay at Vagabons on Little Bay and I'm looking forward to leaving my waders at home!

Will be up starting Nov. 1 for a week. What boat are you running this year, the Lund or the Ranger?
Dominic,
What boat landing where having the problems getting in and out of? I have a 20 foot boat and would like to steer clear of the landing.
Good luck guys and maybe will see you on the water.

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Well, my first trip to Little Bay De Noc Saturday was nothing short of frustrating. We launched out of Gladstone around 7:30 a.m. Headed North immediately due to talking to a guide at the gas station. Can't remember his name but he didn't have any encouraging words on the bite. Started trolling cranks and harnesses between Center Reef and the reef to the West of it. There were so many fish on the screen I thought we were in for a great day. To make a long story short, we threw everything in the tackle box at them for 5 straight hours without one hit. Everywhere we went there were fish all over the water column including balls of baitfish with large arcs around them. I couldn't believe we did not even get a garbage fish let alone a walleye. Oh well, that's why they call it fishing. I have the whole week of deer season off and the boat is not put away for the winter yet. So, maybe if the weather cooperates, I will try it again in a couple weeks. |

Location: Freedom, WI | I just got back from fishing there this weekend too. We did pretty good on Sat. dragging cranks very slow but today all we could manage was a few pike. Hopefully the cold temps. this week will get the water cooled down so that the bite really gets going. |

Location: Freedom, WI | This past weekend we only fished during the day, but from what I heard talking to others the night bite wasn't great either. The weekend before we fished both and caught a little better than half of our fish after dark. It looks like it's shaping up to be a good bite either way. We just need the water temp. to get down a few more degrees and have some stable weather. I think next weekend should be better, we're finally supposed to get some cold weather up there this week. |

| 2 reasons I don't fish big bay anymore The gill nets...wrong wrong wrong and the low water. Is it the Indians that put them out? |

| Not sure who puts them out, the nets we saw this year were different than the long hoop nets from years past. These were about 500 feet long and a single gill net. We did see a large commercial boat checking the nets on 1 out of 5 days we were on the water close to them. I'm not sure what they are netting.
Like I posted before, the nets were closer to Ogontz Bay than I have ever seen them before. I would not want to fish this area at night without spending a day on the water marking their location. And yes, the low water makes it all but impossible to fish Big Bay because there are no public launches that are deep enought to launch anything larger than a 14 foot aluminum boat with waders and a couple of tow straps. It gets worse every year. I know my guests I brought along thought I was crazy after our 30 minute drag across the sand bars every day.
Fished at Depere on Sunday, sure was nice to launch your boat, start the motor and start fishing within a few minutes.... caught a few Males, no big Females in yet. Hoping for another warm spell in December.

| Nice fish Jason. We didn't fare too well, 28" was our biggest, and the numbers were down overall, although we all went home with a few bags of meat. We stopped and fished out of Oconto Friday afternoon/evening and only picked up four (21"-24"). Saturday in Esky was a little better, but not the fishing we are used to up there. Pretty windy Sunday, so we decided to head home. We had water temps around 47-48, a little high yet.

Location: Monona, WI | Gave LBDN a shot last Friday and Saturday. Boat traffic was light due to deer hunting. Nothing huge was caught (28.5" was the biggest) with only 5-6 fish per night. Fished south of Gladstone both afternoons with only one 20" to show for it. Caught fish every night around Center Reef, off the edges in 12-20 feet. A variety of the shallow stickbaits produced fish (T-Sticks, ReefRunners, Lucky Crafts, Renoskys). Natural colors worked best for us. It was nice to be out there again after not being able to go for a few years. If the weather holds, there should be a few more weeks of fishing. Water temps in the outer bay were 43 degrees. Inner bay was 41 degrees. Here is a picture of Tom Harrison with the biggest fish from Friday night.

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Caught 12 Friday night. Two over 10 pounds. Kept 5 eaters. Fished North of Gladstone on edge of reefs. Most guys I have taked to today say that 1st reef was the best. Ripsticks and super rogues were the ticket with no real color pattern. 1-1.2mph. Possible small craft advisories tonight may keep most off the water. Fewest boats I've seen up here in years. Took a drive around town and only saw 11 boats at the motels and 2 at the gladstone landing. Ramps are starting to ice up pretty good with a small crest of ice froming along shore. Water temps at 38. Looks like it may warm up a little this coming week to keep things open for awhile. Most guys I have talked to report 4-6 fish a night but a buddy of mine caught 20 on wednesday night.
Hope the info helps a little. |
