Report but not really any help. I fished off of Oshkosh on Sunday without much luck. 1 perch, 1 gill and 2 white bass? with yellow sides. (is there such a thing as a yellow bass?) Fished anywhere from 6' to 12' on spots that had produced real well for several weeks up to a couple weeks ago. Wanted to try deeper but the lack of activity, the wind and the lure of a Packer game caused me to quit at 11. So 4 hours without much to show. Then i made another mistake and went bow hunting after the game. Catching a fish per hour is way better than being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

I was out on Saturday but the high winds made fishing very difficult. The SE winds created BIG water on the north end where I was fishing (in retrospect, I probably shouldn't have been out there in my 14' craft). I drifted harnesses but even with my drift sock I was moving at 1.5mph. However, I did pick up a few small fish on the reefs before I opted for safer waters in the Menasha channel of the Fox. Wasn't able to find any fish there.

I was out tonight from 2-6 pm. We boated 5 walleyes and some other trash fish. The winds made it really tough to hold in and very hard to feel the bites. We used small jigs tipped with crawlers. There was only one other boat out tonight and I was the only boat at the landing at 6 pm. Why are we getting all this south wind this year? It is so bad all season. I hope you guys in the south are enjoying this season, it should be a great one for you guys down in FDL.

Gilman,
A few years ago I caught a large yellow bass as well. I have not caught one since.
At the time, I thought it so rare that I would keep and and mount it because it was so colorful and unique. My fishing partner told me that they were more common in days past, and I released the fish. The one I caught was gorgeous yellow overlaying the normal white bass markings. I thought it was remarkable and now wish I had kept it.
Take care,
Jim O

We actually caught quite a few Yellow Bass this year while Perch fishing. If you catch one, take a look at the horizontal stripes. They're not straight but kind of broken and jumbled up. Like Jim, the first one I ever caught about 10 years ago, I thought was some kind of freak. They seem to be a bit more common now.

30 years of fishing 'Bago and I never saw a Yellow Bass until this week and now I caught a second one on Wednesday 10-3!!!

Very windy Wednesday even with an off-shore wind on the west side. First couple hours were fruitless but I did finally manage to start catching perch about 10 am. I finally hit the right anchoring angle that minimized how much I was bobbing from the waves and started to catch fish with a straight line. With the bow straight into the waves/wind or perpendicular I was bobbing way too much. With the "Drop and Anchor" moved from the stern to the bow and a mid point angle to the waves I had very little movement in the front of the boat. Once I started fishing from up front instead of my typical position from the back I started to catch fish. Caught 19 between 10 and quitting time at 11:30. Only 2 or 3 on slips. Next time its rough I want to try leaving it on bottom with a small slit shot and a bit of air in the crawler chunk.

Late report...Fished thursday by asylum bay reef and got into some big whitebass...got about 8 in the little while we were there...lots of seagulls around so I figure their must have been a lot of whitebass around...I don't think the WB have made their fall run yet...water temp too high maybe.

ok got out saturday afternoon till about 6 pm... fished 7 rock piles came up empty agian... i say agian as last wed i was out pounding the east shore and also came up empty... not only the first skunk of the year on wed but agian i took one in the shorts on saturday... not a sheephead whitebass smallmouth, not even a worm got stolen by a perch... both days out... wed i had 6 ft or so of water clairity .. far too clear... sunday i had a foot ,,, very clowdy still no bite on the east shore .. stubborn as i am i almost drove to the west side to give it a shot but instead drove around tightinging up some weigh points that i want to give a good try on in may... the last two years there have been a lot of guys on the comunity spots on both sides of the lake , guys starting to show up on what usta be pretty small sorta top secret spots , i think with the new mapping chips and the fact that there are more people using the newer technollogy that its a good time to search out some new realestate.... this is the time of year i do this .... its hard to pull fish anywhere and soon the river will be on fire but im just not ready to put the boat away... thaught about a run to the cedar river but instead of putting 200.00 in fule in the truck and the boat i took out 6 dozen and didnt even put a dent in them... this is a great time of the year to be on the lake ... i had a t-shirt on ... the sunset was awsum... and though i had no dinner for the table i did find a couple of nice spots... you never know what will produce until you fish them but looking over these spots that are oddly a bit deeper and some a bit shalower than most im kinda exited... found two that look very nice... nothing huge but some nice boulders that look like the kind of place that will hold fish... people that jig fish on winnibago are always wondering what kind of spot will hold bigger fish... they always complain about the noumbers of smaller fish they catch wile slip bobbering and jigging points and humps east shore or west.... my advice .... look for special spots... it seems that out of every 15 little spots i find and after a wile of driving over them and fishing them and pulling a larger fish off of them i figure out why the larger fish was there... seems to me that when you have a cup or larger boulder with a good shelter and ambush point it becomes a big fish magnet... this fish house i call it is home to anyfish that swims by and finds it .. then when a larger fish swims by he claims king of the mountain and he chases out the smaller one ... this can happen several times... these spots are hard to find.. and you need almost perfect jig placement and wind direction to catch this fish.... i have a buddy that had found a spot like this about 4 years ago.. with one exeption ... it was a pile of larger boulders and heald more than one big fish... a big fish condo so to speak... after about 4 great tournament years of this guy one of the few that has consistantly came out ahead fishing tournaments on the bago chain this top secret spot has been invaded by other fisherman that had seen him pull tournament winning fish of this small spot.... the spot has been seeing pressure durring the week now , not only on tournament weekends ,,, it is not what it usta be and this angler never was one to sit on a spot for long anyway... this angler toward the end of the year found a boat on this spot when he went to it on a tournament day.... a familair boat , a competetor but somone he knew pretty well... well nothing on the lake has anyones name on it but its funny how the boat that sat on it all day won the tourny and took home a pretty nice check... obviosly hard fealings but the secret and respect some had to stay away knowing of its potential until now... my point is nothing seems to last forever anymore ... and its a good time to find a new honey hole.... but when someone sees you anchored on it and drives by slow as you catch a fish.. dont think for one min. that guy isnt smart enuff to punch in a waypoint and come back for a look later... thats whe need to always find something new ..its a big lake and a lot of water to cover... wile out searching i also found two arias of about 100 yards that years ago were good trolling spots i just didnt know why... as i took a closer look for places to drop an achor i figured out why i pulled fish trolling years back... so i also found two 80 or 100 yard streatches of water to run a crank bait over... didnt find anything to drastic that would make me throw out an anchor on these stretches but i do know why fish would scatter about on these two stretches... so all is not lost in the two times i got out this week ,,, no fish to show for my trouble but when the ice melts and water warms up next year... ill have a couple 5 or six new idias to try... hope the weather holds as i have far too much water and only one lifetime..... just the tip of the iceberg

I was out for a while on Saturday as well; usual north end areas. Water clarity was practically zero. I was able to entice 2 eyes into biting on the reefs -- both came rigging w/ a #2 gold spinner and a crawler. Water temp was still 58 despite the cold weather - I'm sure it will drop this week. I'll be turning to minnows next weekend.

yes im trying to get a report from a west shore walleye killer or if there is somone on the south end that was out... my report from way up river was not good and im wondering if the whole system is junk... the hole vhs thing though im thinking our walleyes will be fine as they are tuff is getting me thinking due to the water temp that even though they havent shown signs of weekness they could still have a tummy ache ... a bit of the flu ... there should be guys catching fsh on the west shore reefs and off the mouth this time of year and the the river should be getting better every day... has anyone been out? or have you seen any boats catching fish wile sitting in your tree stand? i think there was 3 boats on the east shore saturday from pipe to stockbridge ,, wile i was out .. all looking like they had a hard time...
