Location: Manitowoc, WI | Recently we have noticed several of these things around the exterior of the house. My wife says she saw the ones with the color on them in the paper but cannot remember what it said about them. The other one (black one) I have no clue. What are they and do I need to worry about the kids by them or what. I've never seen them around the house before.

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | We call the top ones Stink Bugs and the bottom one Box Elder Bugs. I'm sure both are a type of betle. |

| Ditto to what captain dan says. Beware, many hemipterans have piercing mouthparts (which i have learned more than on occasion from backswimmers while trout fishing), not sure if this is the case with the stinkbug. Box elders are harmless. |

| What's the deal with the Box Elder bugs this year? I've got my fair share of 'em too and I don't think I've ever seen them around my house before. |

| Can anyone recommend a good pest control place in the Fox Valley to take care of box elder bugs/asian beetles? I have been spraying with the Ortho Home Defense, and it does kill them both, but it doesn't have much of a residual effect and I can't reach my second story with the little sprayer it has. It is a neverending task....

Location: LaCrosse, WI | Dave,
I have a huge female box elder tree directly in front of my house. I've found that one of the best things I've done is to spray my tree and siding with a mixture of water and Dawn dish soap. I also use the Ortho Home Max on my siding to help. It does eliminate a lot of them. I was actually throwing buckets of soapy water on the tree to get to them. It does actually help.
It was so bad that about 50 of them would fly into my house every time I opened the front door. Now it's not nearly as bad. I would cut down the tree, but it's the only shade I have in front of my house (West side). It's always really bright on that side in the afternoon. |

Location: Greenville Wi | I got the same thing in my back yard.I havent seen them this bad in 45 to 50 years. When we wre kids we would hook the garden hose up to the hot water valve on the wash machine and hose them down. that worked good till dad found out and gave us the fatherly talk about us paying the gas bill and ect |

Location: upper michigan | what I do is on a cool sunny morning they will bunch up in a spot on the sideing where the sun has warmed it and I will hit them with wasp and hornet spray they die within a minute since I have been doing this the numbers have been way down I seldom see more than 200 at a time instead of the thousands I used to see. |

| Hey guys I had the same problem last year. Go to your local farm co-op and ask them for Tempo (sc ultra premise spray). You can also do a google search and find it. Mix 8 milliliters of Tempro to 1 gallon of water in a hand pump sprayer and spray around the foundation on your house, doors and windows. I had to sweep the dead bugs off my deck, this stuff really works. Cost around 40 bucks for 210 ml.
Hope this helps

Location: Rhinelander | The cold weathger the last two days has pretty much cleared them up here, finally. I've used a soap solution mixed with water to kill them, too. Works pretty well. |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | We should start a tournament program on them. I'm sure we would wipe them out faster than you could say "charges a user fee". |
