fishing bago? wouldnt you say we have had the best year for a long long time?  the walleyes have been good all year... even a great 1month run from mid june to mid july for the trollers... plenty of great eaters. and also lots of 20 inch year class.. made for a 4lb average for a mud bite tourny win and a 2.5 lb average even on tuff bite days, the perch have bitten all year and seem to be supported in huge noumbers... and the small mouth population is exploding... even catching bluegills on the lake? interesting i thaught... hope it keeps up... caught some saugers almost 1 or two on every trip out earlyer this year.. havent seen one since july... and no vhs sightings for me since spring sheephead...  been fishing this lake twice a week all year , and for the last 10 years i cant remember it being so strong...

I would say it's the best year I've had for harvesting fish. Lots of quality eaters in the 15-20" range. I didn't catch nearly as many big fish as in some past years. 4-5 Years ago was the best year I had for catching "big" fish (23" and greater). 2 or 3 springs ago was fantastic for 23-24" fish.

I know lots of people were slaying the 23" fish this year....but I must need to calibrate my Judge bump board.

Good year but not my best. 2001 and the mid '90's were my best. 2001 was good for both numbers and size. In the past I too stubborn to give up on eyes deep into the summer and as a result my catch rate went down. This year I finally wised up and did surprising well on perch.

A decent year but I could not get much consistency. Granted, I spent less time on Bago than normal this year. I still have not figured out how the Otter Street Boys troll up those bigguns every year.
Take care,

I didn't move here until 2003 so I've only fished Bago seriously for 3 seasons and I don't have much of a baseline to compare this year and those prior. For me, it was by far my best year on Bago. With the exception of a 3 week stretch in late July-early August, I found and caught fish pretty consistently from April to October. While the fish I've found lately have been primarily 13"-16" fish, during that hot streak in June 20"+ fish were a good percentage of my catch; overall, I caught more fish over 20" this year than the 2 previous years combined.

Despite the reports of crazy perch action, I haven't been too successful in that department. In part, I think, because I have a real aversion to dropping anchor and in part because I primarily fish in areas where the perch aren't. However, I did pretty well ice fishing perch last season and am really looking forward to this winter's action.
