What pitch Tempest can a 200 OPTI turn on a 1890 and still have good holeshot?

i ran a 3-blade 21p Tempest for awhile when i first got my 1890.
hole shot doesn't quite describe it...more like hole "launch"!
lots of power transferred to motion with that prop. 0 to Full-Tilt-Boogie before you blink.

we compared that prop to the 5-blade HiFive i'm running now out on the lake one day.
the HiFive isn't quite as fast to full speed, but seemed smoother and offered more lift. pops out of the hole with a bit more "up" than the "forward" feel of the Tempest.
the Tempest has a very "muscle" feel to it, if that makes sense. very fast.

What kind of speed did you get with the Tempest?

with the Tempest prop i would consistently top out at 59mph with motor in 2nd hole.
i know someone else running the same prop with their motor one hole higher (3rd hole) who gets 63-64mph.

with the Hi-Five i get 54mph (motor in 2nd hole), a tad slower top-end, but still very satisfactory top speed. i rarely drive WOT for very long anyway.
the upside was i gained a lower planing speed: i can run 20-25mph nicely on plane, with the Tempest it was 35mph plus to hold smooth on plane.

Got the boat back, and had it out yesterday. What a difference! Still with the Rev 4 21P, and I could run it at 23 with NO porposing. Those little tabs really make a difference. The boat is not nearly as trim sensitive. Now to get that motor up a couple or three holes. I'd like to try the Tempest. Mike, you need to get the fix!

Shep I have mine as high as it will go and still have good water pressure, next time you have it out have someone drive it. look at the cav plate, mine being all the way up the plate is just above the water fully trimmed at wot.

If I put the hammer down from a dead stop with some trim it will cav for second as it accelerats then goes away. But my Lund did theat to under similar situations.

Glad the skunk worked

Shep, what are you refering to as the fix? My 1890 porposes like crazy, my dealer insists that there is nothing wrong with the boat. We have tried every prop and engine mounting hole with no improvement. What gives?

Shep
I would also like to know what the fix is that you mentioned. I can run my 1890 without porposing, but it is definately trim sensative, and sensative to weight distribution.
I heard that Fiberdome made a change on the new hulls to correct this problem. I'm stuck with my 1890 for a few years and if there is a fix to make it a little easier to drive, I'm all for it.

The "fix" is laminating some very small wedges into the rear of the hull. I suggest you contact Tuffy at 1-800-359-4416. Talk with Steve, and he'll tell you the what and why's. First time in the water, I was able to tell the difference right off.
