I dont know exactly what you mean by custom painting, but I have painted several of my own cranks. Either with permanent marker or with womens nail polish. I had a perch colored shad rap with a few alterations made out-catch a plain perch same size, same color, same feet back, and my painted one outproduced 3 to 1 or maybe more last summer. It wasnt just a day or two, it went on for a while. So unless you mean scales and gills, and all of that you can do it yourself with time.

Check out downrivertackle.com. This guy did a great job for me painting Wally Divers and Rip Shads pearl white.

Hutchie does some primo work. He's at riverwalleyes. Nice examples, wicked colors.

Quality helps a bunch. So things like a solid clear coat. On the Illinois and Mississippi river, bright firetiger is great. You wont find too many crankers without pink and orange.

I second Hutch. He does great work. Lots of different designs or you can come up with your own for him to try and do. riverwalleyes.com

I have done my own and its easy. buy airbrush/paint kits are cheap and if you already own compressor your set! I'm also done blades for harnesses. The good thing about this you can play with more colors by doing it yourself. I have recycled a few beat up lures and brought them back to original colors.

I paint my own and do a pretty good job of it but I still wind up having Hutch do some for me every year. It is not just knowing how to paint but most importantly being able to come up with color combinations that catch fish and Hutch is the best that I have seen. A B&B box full of pretty painted rapalas that don`t catch fish aren`t worth anything.
Take a look at www.riverwalleyes.com or give the man a call or both. You won`t be sorry
