Congrats Paul! It sure is a liberating experience opening up all those spaces in your tackle boxes:) Been there and I will admit I cried a little but I got over it. I did end up keeping just a few only because they had belonged to Jerry.

BTW, I am starting Crankbaits Anynonomous (CA) if anyone is interested.

Hello, my name is Brad and I am a crankbait-aholic. Its been two months since I bought my last crankbait. I started buying crank baits when I was 9 years old. My first was a #7 floating Rapala, blue and white. I had seen other people buying crank baits and I thought it looked innocent enough. I thought I would just buy one and see if I liked it. Before I knew what was happening, I had boxes and boxes of crankbaits. I tried to come clean, but everytime I stopped at a site like this and somebody would say "Renosky" or "Wally-Diver", I simply could not control myself and I would have to buy a few of the new colors or styles that came out. But after the initial rush, I always felt hollow and empty after a buying binge. Many times the new crankbaits that I would buy would never see the water. Worse still, I would lie to my friends and family about my crankbaits, often telling the lie that I could quit whenever I wanted to and then deny that I had a problem at all.

I would like to apoligize to my friends and family for my behavior. Some of you have stuck with me through the banjo minnow and Rapala rattlin' rap. It was your love and support that allowed me to avoid the spoon harness frenzy last season and I know now that I will be able to withstand the temptation of whatever product presented here, regardless of the price, amount of glitter, or the degree to which it is shameless targetted at me, the crankbait-aholic, in this coming season.

And I would also like to thank Rich S for starting this program. If it weren't for you, I'd probably be at the baitshop right now trying to sell a kidney to raise enough money for a few more Winning Streaks. Thanks Bud. You saved another one.

And that my friend is what CA is all about. I still remember the feeling I would have every time I entered the crank bait isle. When the addiction first started is was a feeling of excitement and curiosity. The pure rush of picking out the right one and then taking it out of the box. I still remember removing all my clothes and taking my newest addition into the bath with me. We would spend hours in there until we were one with each other. Later I would dry it off and remove the hooks. I would hold it in my hand as I slept dreaming of the 10lb'er I would be catching with it but then........what if my line broke......what if it got damaged in the fight????? Too risky for this guy. Back in the box where it will be safe.

As the addiction grew, my feelings of excitement changed. Excitement to nervousness, then envy, jealousy, I began to lust after them, I NEEDED MORE....I HAD TO HAVE THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thoughts of hatred and murder starting popping into my head. I could not take any more. New ones kept appearing every season, it never ended. Rumors that Dave Storm was going to start making babies.....something had to give!!

There was an intervention. You were there, and you and even you. My mind was torn between fantasy and reality. Finally, after much medication and shock therapy it was over. Been on the wagon for a few months now and I am not looking back.

We meet every Monday and Wednesday.

Now this is good fun!
What was the turning point for you? I still can't admit to myself that I am a CA. There are often times I do go by those isles but it is hard to miss the endcaps, is this a sign that I am addicted? The other day I was trying to spend some Gift Certs that expired soon so I needed to buy something. I managed to get a few lonely guys and even had to get them a new case! Is buying a crank in Dec. a sign that I might be addicted?
Good Luck

Those are very early stages. Once you start piercing your skin with hundeds of trebles in order to let those beautiful cranks hang from your farmers tanned skin in hopes to be looked upon in favor by the crankbait god...then you are an addict.

This just in............

News reports are indicating that we are experiencing a stock market crash.

Apparently, all indications point to the decline in Crankbait purchases being made in the midwest region of the United States.

Thanks a lot Walleye Wolf, Rich S and Brad B........

Now look what you started, a real domino effect!!

I like crankbaits in moderation, it's the $400 I have invested in Crawler Harnesses that drives me over the edge. How in the heck can one person get addicted to those small beautiful beads and blades. So many colors and shapes and sizes... I blame my older sister for making me play dress up as a kid and wear a neckless.

If you have to ask how much they are, you cannot afford them. This is a collection that was put together with love man, show some respect. Only the finest in fish catch abilities and a story to go with everyone. years of hard work to collect such an array. Be prepared to spend the day while making your purchases. And they are priced fairly so no asking for a better deal. Oooppppsssss, i just came out of the closent, didn't I?

John is a true CRANKAHOLIC. I have seen and used his cranks since he his my fishing partner. I told him something had to give because we were using a 10' dingy as a tackle box.I've only got about a 1000 cranks. Without johns crank problem I would probably be in need of some help.

oh yea, thats right, the dope dealer him self, Bill from B&B, gives you something to store them cranks in so it doesn't look like you have so many and you buy even more. Thats why they are black. Them boxes work great.

Mannerino... "organized"... Nah, he has them hanging from his hat brim, sort of segregated by color... Pretty sizeable hat......

Also, I watched him darn near bled to death when he tried to remove his sunglasses real fast... Got a couple stuck in an artery...

He says he does it that way cuz he likes to hear the little rattles... But, I think the things actually talk to him... I know he talks to them... Heard him say, many times; "why aren't you catching me a fish?"

HAHAHAHAHA Yea trying to keep things in order is a task,,, more so after the tourney season ends and it time to get things in order for the spring. Big problem is I fish different river systems all times of the year, inland lakes all over and the great lakes.. Somewhere around the end of Feb., I start stuffing boxes again. Yea I have 12 B&B boxes and I dont know how many plano`s. Mark ,,You bought a bigger boat for as reason. When i`m not fishing a tourney with you you get 10 more mph!! Now you got that 10 back. Greg, Thats a good one hehehe.

yep, I seen that mannerino box. Just like hutchies box. I think its meant to be a distractor. "pick a crank, any crank". By the time you key in on one, the lid closes just like that. You walk away wondering "what did I just see". I think jerry has a stack of crank boxes that was taller than the 7yo, times 4 columns.

rehab for quitters. .thats funny.

6000?... I think anything over 1000 and you have serious problems! 6000 and you are just plain MESSED UP!

I did a recount last night... I thought I had 270-280, turns out I have 335. I can honestly say I have used all but about 50 of them (most of those are backups) and I feel good about owning them all. I am sure I will buy more, but no way will it ever get close to 6000. Heck over the past month I sold about 100 in the classifieds and to friends of ones I dont use just to keep from buying more crank boxes to hold them.

By the way... I use the "Special Mate" boxes... I have 3 and they work really well.

I have had days on the rivers that only one color will work and it has to go out on 4 lines in a tourney. Do that with 75 different custom color patterns plus stock colors in different cranks and sizes and BOOM you got 6000. Yes there is no way to fish them all at once but I dont bring them all to each trip. All depends where i`m fishing.

To John and everyone else - this seems like an appropriate time and place to remind everyone of the importance of taking a few pictures of you tackle collection. Most insurance agents won't believe that a person can have a few hundred crank baits that total $2000, much less 6000 that $30,000 won't replace.

I took pictures and did a video of all my gear and then sat down with my agent to make sure I was covered. You would not belive what a few dollars more buys you in coverage. I heard too many horror stories from people that been hit.

Good point, Brad. Like John I took a seperate writer out on my tackle when I insured my boat. When I explained the value of the tackle in my boat on any given trip. My agent looked at me as if I was nuts. But it's covered. These insurance agencys don't have a clue on how much money some of us fishermen dump into our gear. Trying to explain that after the fact and you can see how difficult it would be to get covered.

That is a very good idea. I often wondered how many lakes I could fill up with my tears if I lost my gear.
I might just have to swing into the agency, and see what he needs to hook me up. Hook get it.

I must have had one to many coffees this AM.

Not the Hot-n-Tot, anything but the Hot-n-Tot. Speaking as a recovered addict, She can be a cruel lover. One thing I learned is: Hooks get rusty and dull, colors will fade and baits will stop running true no matter what you do to them but a full sized full color hot-n-tot chart tattooed on your back lasts forever.

Good luck my friend.

Ya- Hot n Tot
Once I got all the catalog colors, I find out there are Way more sp numbers than I could have ever thought. Then I got into the Japenese numbered tots, Making international deals from Tokoyo and such. But the further I get, The deeper it goes!!
Come to find out there are South Korean, Poland, Aussie colors, German, The Neitherlands- On and On!
There is no way to find out ANY info on these lures anymore.
It keeps me up sometimes, wondering where the "next one" Is going to come from?
I.ve tried different drugs over the years, But there not helping! Sure they keep me home some saturday mornings, but with e-bay there's always a bunch right there to be had. just click
