| Well, a couple nights of -10 degree weather did the trick. The whole bay is now completly covered with ice. http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/modis.cgi/modis?region=m&pag...
Going to stay good and cold thru the rest of the week, but warming by next weekend. Guys are taking trucks all over the upper bay, and I'm sure they'll be going out at least as far as the first breakline south of Gladstone by next weekend. For all the people calling and asking - yes, they are starting to fish near the Escanaba River now. If you like fishing on 3 to 4 inches of ice with 1000 foot frieghters still coming into the nearby ore docks - have at it!
The cold also kept a lot of folks at home, so we didn't get too many reports back at the shop. What we heard was mixed. No stand out baits or locations. Most fishermen commenting on all the fish they're marking, but few are biting. I tried some new water tonight. Only marked two fish. The first one smacked both my lines, but didn't hook up. That's what I get for trying new water! Guess I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens. | |
