"bait & tackle ideas for the upcoming weekend,

fair catches of fish being reported throughout the Bay fishing this past week.
Temps. have warmed considerably prior to some below zero weather earlier this week. Vehicle travel being seen more and more especially the upper Bay and the melting and rain from last week along with the cold snap has settled the snow a good amount making ATV, snowmobile and walking very satisfactory.
Fishing areas to consider and many within walking distances of many of the "ice" launch sites. Off the Day's River DNR area these upper flats bottom out to 12-15 feet of water. A good "hot-spots" map will locate the major breaklines on both the east/west shores of the upper/lower Bay which all have easy access whether using vehicles or foot travel.
Walleye anglers; jigging Rapala's in #5, #7 and even the #9's in glow colors, tiger patterns, clown and perch are good choices.
Best jigging methods and fishing these baits plain giving the best action. Spoons including the Bay de Noc pimples and Buckshot Rattles tipped with minnow heads/tails.
Perch anglers; not hearing of a real good bite right now. Talked to several fishing the Escanaba Harbor with some perch, couple of nice crappie and northern pike action on tip-ups.
Tip-ups using large 4 to 6 inch sucker/shiner minnows off weed edges and deeper waters fishing several feet of bottom can take some nice fish.
Just some fishing tips to helping all of you out.
We'll again be on the ice this weekend.

Good luck to all of you this weekend and give us your reports as too what's happening.
Marty
