Hey guys- I have been fishing out of town the last two weekends, and I have not had a chance to be out on Winnebago. Can anyone give an ice/snow/crack update? I'd like to take my daughter out for the "Battle on Bago". I don't need fish reports, just wondering about landings, cracks, and if I can get around OK in a 4WD Blazer?

Thanks much-

Dave S

I know you're probably looking for Oshkosh areas reports but....I was out from the Payne's Point Club with my boys on Saturday. Dale and the crew have a decent road running out to the mud then south a few miles. Dale told us there were some trouble spots caused by the heavy snow. I had the minivan so we didn't even try offroad. As deep and crusty as the snow was I doubt a 4X4 would have done very well either. It sounds like the snow is thinner and travel is a little better towards Oshkosh.

We started out in +17' -- we'd have a wave pass through on the flasher every 15 minutes or so but we couldn't get any takers. After 4pm we moved shallower to 12', just west of Mansur's Reef, lots of fish following but only a few small perch biting. Even though we didn't really catch anything the boys had a blast running around and my 7-year old has learned to read the flasher and got a big kick out of luring a fish 5 feet off the bottom even if it wouldn't hit.

Edited to add: There was nearly 30" of ice where we first set up -- almost bottomed the auger out. It was a bit thinner, ~25", in shallower.

I was out and about off of Oshkosh Sat and Sun without any problems. The furthest I ventured out was about 3 miles and then worked my way a couple of miles to the South. It did feel like I was on the verge of getting stuck a few times but I just kept my momentum until I was comfortable. The couple people that I saw stuck were not careful about where they exited or reentered the plowed roads. Some areas adjacent to the plowed roads had noticeably more snow than other areas. Travel was ok but the bite sure wasn't hot for me.

I was out of county park yesterday and travel was ok. If you stick to the plowed roads and pick and choose where you exit them you will be fine. There were some slushy spots developing but nothing that should cause any mobilty probelms. The fishing was slow for us but it was a nice day out. Good Luck in the Tourney

Stay away from the north end tons of slush. Out from High Cliff going south is pretty decent though.
