| I am looking for some advice. I hope I can explain this correctly, here goes. I own an older Motorguide Energy 76lb 24 volt bow mount trolling motor with cable foot steer. It is a 50" shaft with a std breakaway Gator mount. I use this motor on a Lund 1775 Pro V tiller boat and the shaft is just long enough to have the motor submerged. It works OK in calm water, which is about the only time I use it. However, as soon as there is any significant chop, the prop comes out of the water. Now, where the motor shaft is positioned in the "hinged door” of the mount, is where it needs to be in order to be locked down when properly stowed. The motor head sits on the rubber strips of the mount.
In this position, it leaves about 8 inches of shaft from the top of the hinged door to the underside of the head (steering end). This would allow me the room to lower the motor shaft further down in the hinged door if I want. This in turn would submerge the motor further and solve the issue. But, when the motor is picked up to stow, the motor (prop end) does not reach the deck mount for proper stowing. (Can you visualize what I mean?)
The questions are:
1- Is there an "extension" available for the gator mount centering decket?
2- Can I buy a different mount that would allow the motor to be lowered further into the water and still be properly stowed? Would a Gator mount XL 23.5 accomplish this?
I just can’t seem to find the answers to these questions. I don’t know what all the dimensional differences are between the different Motorguide mounts.
Please let me know if there is a solution besides buying a new motor with a longer shaft.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I have seen guys with the older motors like your Motorguide just lower the shaft down and when they stow the motor, the bottom part of the trolling motor just hangs out of the mount a little bit. I don't think it's going to hurt anything, however, I'd probably pull the shaft back up when your done for the day or when trailering.
But as for an extension, I don't know of any kind of extension.

| From what I gather your motor shaft is too short, so you'd like to find a way to make your mount extend out farther to take advantage of the several extra inches available above the clamp vs buying a new trolling motor. I have not seen anything like this out there but will keep my eyes open. From your description even taking advantage of those few extra inches the motor still wouldn't be sitting at an ideal depth in the water, I would look into selling your current TM and buy new or new-used one of the proper length. | |

| Your choices are to either loosen the clamp on your current mount to drop the motor deeper into the water, or buy a longer mount. The Tour Gator XL 24 mount will solve your problem. If you are looking for a used mount, I'm sure I can find one for you.
