| I just put on a new sonar unit,lowrance 522. Do I have to worry about this draining my starting battery? If it will drain my battery what should I install to fix that? |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | You should be ok. I've run my bow and console electronics on all day for long periods of time and been just fine. Now if you were running other things such as a radio, livewells, multiple sonar units and other things that draw more on the battery you might need to watch that. But you should be just fine. |

| Your GPS module is constantly drawing power. It will drain your battery after awhile. If you don't have an onboard charger that you leave plugged in, I would put an inline switch to your depth finder. |

You are correct, however, most boats have a master power. So once you turn the master power off, that will turn everything off. However, not all smaller rigs have this. |

| You have to make sure that it is wired into the master switch. I had a simular issue by having my Lowrance wired correctly, but the GPS module, I wired into a seperate line that was not connected to the master. Took some time to figure it out but the GPS module had constent power going to it therfore draining the battery. |

| yes I did put in a toggle switch so I can shut it off. Have no onboard battery charger. Does my main motor charge my cranking battery when its running? |

Yes, when running, your starting battery is charging. |

| thanks for the help. Soon as we lose the 2 feet of ice here in the U.P I will be out testing the sonar out on LBDN. |

| I am going to get a pair of 520c's that will be set up with the one power lead. and one external module. It will be wired to the starting battery, a wet cell for now. The little Honda charges it when running wide open, so not too often. Will I need a switch as well?? |

| At minimum would run the GPS module power to a switched power lead to ensure it is not drawing juice when the boat is not in use. |

| I DO have an onboard that I plug in after a outing, but then unplug it after they are topped off. Do alot of you leave the onboard plugged it ALL the time? Why? I make at least one trip a week. |
