With south winds blowing a blizzard here this morning over the Bay "open-water" fishing seems a long way off!
52 day's but who's counting? Well nows the time to start putting a list together, pulling tackle boxes out, fishing rods and just an overview of all your equipment.
The re-organization of jig boxes, sorting and checking for bad hooks, replacing them. Spooling new lines on reels, the lubrication and basic cleaning of reels and rods.
Boat maintanence too; checking your batteries, making sure all livewells, bilge pumps, lights and horns are working well. If your trailering your rig proper tire inflation, checking winch straps and tie-down straps. Biggest problem most of us always see is that the trailer lights are all working fine.
Safety equipment including life jackets or the new inflatibles from Stearns and Cabelas making wearing a life jacket almost unnoticable while fishing all day.
These are just a few things that always should be looked at especially starting the new fishing season year and doesn't hurt to be gone through as the season goes on.
