There is still a lot of ice and the 10 day forecast includes some rain but no relly warm temps. I'm going to say we've got at least 14 more days until the ice is gone on April 9th.
BTW: Last year's ice out was March 27th.

There were 2 guys in a boat today under the 41 bridge... with about 50 feet of the river open... crazy or what? |

Location: Darboy USA | What kind of ice out, total ice out or just parts of the lake? Fully open for boats anywhere, I'd say April 18. |

To avoid disputes we'll use ice out as declared by the DNR. |

| Does the DNR declare ice out? or the Corp when they begin the refill process? |

Location: Menasha, WI | I'm pretty sure it's the DNR. I had searched back to find last year's date -- the copy-&-paste was from a Corp announcement on the refill in which they relied on the DNR's declaration. |

Location: Menasha, WI | The ice turned really black with today's rain. The northwest end has a lot of open water. With more rain, some wind, and warmers temps later this week, I'm feeling pretty good about my April 9th guess. |

Location: Menasha, WI | I'm out. Last night's rain dissolved a lot of ice and the entire west shore form Menasha to Oshkosh is wide open as far as I could see. With the west wind, I suspect the ice that remains has all been pushed to the east shore. Another day or two and it should be official.
Here's the USACE report from this morning:
Lake Winnebago Ice Conditions - Updated April 9, 2008
The recent mild temperatures and precipitation has caused the ice on Lake Winnebago to deteriorate. As of yesterday, reports from the WDNR pilots and property owners along the shoreline indicate that Lake Winnebago is still ice covered, but is shifting. The SW corner of the lake is wide open. Lakes Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts are presently ½ open. According to the WDNR, break-up is imminent but no ice-out date can be estimated at this time. |

Location: Menasha, WI | And the winner of the picture of Jerry goes to thumper! I feel for ya' Dave.
This was posted at USACE on Tuesday:
As of late yesterday (April 14th), the WDNR reported that the ice on Lakes Winnebago, Poygan Winneconne and Butte des Morts was completely gone. The USACE will closely monitor lake level conditions and make the appropriate changes in accordance with our spring fill-up objectives as discussed in the 1 April 2008 conference call.

Location: Menasha, WI | Looking at the satellite pics, it does look like there's some ice left so your warnings are well placed. I'm too busy to get out soon anyway. Hopefully, next week after the water warms up, some late evening shoreline trolling will be possible. |

| I guess I have to go get a frame and make a spot on the wall between my pictures of Shep and David Hasselhoff.
