I'M INTERESTED IN THIS MODEL. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH ONE? HOW DO THEY HANDLE? WHAT SPEEDS WITH A 175?, HOW IS THE HULL AND CONSTRUCTION? THANKS

I've had my 1860 for a year now. It's the best boat I've owned by far. My only regret is not going with the 175hp motor. I would estimate 50-52 mph with a 175hp motor. I went with the 150hp Optimax. I have a top speed of 48 mph using a 19 pitch Tempest SS prop. Up on plane in an instant. The hull and construction are what you would expect from Ranger. The 98" beam creates great stability in the water. Very dry ride even in rough water (3-4 footers) I would definately recommend this boat.

I have been hesitant to comment on my 1860 Angler because I haven't had it on any big water yet...I haven't found anything lacking on the fit and finish. For the angling that I have done, it fishes bigger than my former Triton 189. Both of those boats have about the same specs...Not having the storage boxes on the sides in the back really opens it up for trolling. The back deck is big enough for musky fishing as well...as far as the 150 vs. the 175...Mine has the 150 Opti and a 9.9 kicker so with full load and myself I hit 50, add another guy and I am at 48. I have the same prop as Wally Ranger. I have seen other posts that have claimed 52 mph with a 175, which sounds/seems reasonable. Not sure what it will do with the 175 Pro-Xs. I have no regrets going with the 150. Hole shot is very good and I saved at least $3 thousand by going with the boat that was on the dealers floor with the 150. Whenever I feel that 4 mph on top end is what I really need I just do a simple calculation...assuming a tournament run is 30 miles in ideal conditions it will take the guy going 52 mph 34 mins and 36 secs. to get to the spot, If I am traveling at 48 mph 37 mins 30 secs, for the few tournaments that I fish... for 3 grand I will make up that time someplace else....Good Luck. I just bought a 2007 carry over with a 175 Verado in October. Still breaking it in but with two big guys, full of fuel and 100 lbs of gear, half a live well, I hit 52.8 mph @ 6200 rpm GPS with a 22 pitch prop. Can only run for 5 minutes at WOT every so often for the next 14 hours still in the break-in mode. will have the motor serviced at 20 hours then we will see. A little higher elavation out here in Montana.

I have reata with a 175 zook, I rode in many before I bought it. The four stroke 150 yamaha was a dog. Yamaha 175 hpdi much better. The suzuki a tad slower on top end than the hpdi. Never an opti, though my previous boat (triton) had a 200 opti on it. Loved that opti growl. You are not buying a fast boat, period. If you want a missle buy one. These boats are made to keep you dry, and are built well. These things add weight, and make them slower. I think the 150 opti would get you on plain ok, 175 faster. What is the price differance? Is it worth it for the 3-5 mph? Do you plan on reselling any time soon? If you do you better get the 175.
If the price is close, always go big. If you plan on keeping it a while, and can live with a little bit slower boat, save some bucks.

As for the big water, I have had my boat on michigan a few times, and it has performed flawlessly.

I have had my 1860 for about 2 weeks. Great boat. It is a dual console rigged with a 150 opti max and a 9.9 pro kicker. Don't know if it matters but it is an 07 model that I purchased as a closeout deal. It has a 19 pitch tempest prop. I only have about 5 hours on the motor, and can only have it wide open for short bursts but right now I can only get 5050 rpms and about 42 miles per hour with 2 adults in the boat. I have one 28 pound anchor in one of the rear compartments, the front compartment is full of crankbaits (not much weight). The opti is hung in the 2nd hole from the top. Any one have any suggestions on what I can do to get the rpms and speed up to where the other 1860's with the same prop seem to be getting? Could there be something wrong with the prop or motor?

Have you been able to trim it out at WOT yet?

Yes, I can go wide open for short bursts. Kept the hammer down until the rpm's leveled out then trimmed out until the rpms leveled out. 5050 usually one time 5200.

Wade, what hole is your motor in, and what is your WOT RPM? Same boat, motor and prop. Should be closer to the same performance.

Hole #2(down from the top) 19P Tempest. I have the same set-up, I thought things were a bit doggy(5200 - 5300 RPMS) at WOT during the heat of the summer...top end was around 47 mph with full load. The folks at Ranger suggested I remove one of the plugs in the Prop to increase RPMS, I will do that this summer to see if it makes a difference. Spark plug #2 fouled on me down at Cave Run, no hole shot, no WOT, after that was replaced I consistently see over 5400 RPMS and 48 - 49 mph WOT...and now see 50 mph more often(of course it is cooler now)
Maybe "guest" is at a higher elevation? Or has a fouled plug already?

Removing the plug in the prop will not affect RPM once you are on plane. It will affect the holeshot.

Maybe it really needs a 17P Tempest? Or a 19 or 21 Lazer II. But you don't get as much bow lift with the Lazer II.

Well there ya go...just relaying what I was told. Never put it into practice. After reading about the PVS on the Mercury website...I think I will just leave it as is...maybe the sparkplug was robbing me of some RPMS for awhile? I'll admit that other than the can of 3 in 1 oil and that screwdriver with the broken handle, I'm not much of a mechanic.

always ran a 620 tiller untill the fall of 06 had a tree stand incident and injured my left shoulder.when it came time in feb to order my prostaff boat i was heisitant to go witha tiller not knowing if i would be fully recovered by spring.
since the 1860 was a new model for 07 and was expected to be a big hit price point wise i was asked by ranger/the dealer to try the 1860 since my sun was running a 619 for comparison. i liked it so much i didn;t really try hard to sell and kept for 08 especially since what i had in it.
it's simply set up and clean, really like the snap out carpet option for when you're using crawlers or other messy bait or bleeding fish, just hose it out like a salt water boat.
with it's wide beam it's a very stabile, very dry ride with no chime at full trim at all.
it is surprising how much room it has for a 18 ,with a single consul the 1860 fished like 20 with a dual, fished 3 plus myself often.
got it with a 150 opti and it's plenty fast enough with good mileage top speed is 48 but alone or 1 with 1/2 tank it will tickel 50. also got a 9.9 pro kicker and with splashwell wackers you can sit out in 3+fters with out getting wet if it's to big fore the electric.
have decided to put it up for sale now instaed of this fall.
can be seen at www.andymyerslodge.com under fishing report board.
still like new condition.
comes with a 4 day 5 nite stay at the lodge.
