Location: Stevens Point, WI | Wind, it's what mother nature threw at 99 boaters and co-anglers fishing the first stop in the Wisconsin division of the FLW League event on the Wolf River Chain. With solid winds all day long out of the west and gusts up to 35 mph, it made many anglers looking forward to a great bite during prefishing to absolute misery and two-thirds of the field dropping a goose egg for a finish.
Majority of anglers just went out today in hopes of catching a legal fish for points toward the championship and possible even a check. Well the combination of Gregory Dekalb and co-angler Luke Lisch did just that. They were able to put together one of six limits weighing 10lbs and 9ounces to claim the Wisconsin divisions top spot.
With no clear proven tactic doing any better than another, guys did just about every spring tactic they could to try and put a fish in the boat. However, today majority of fish favored the infamous Wolf River Rig. With minutes to go and hoping for a desperation fish, third place finisher Kenneth Dage and co-angler John Osterloh were fishing under the Winneconne bridge and were able to squeak out one fish weighing 7lbs-14oz to nab a combined check for $4800.00.
Second place went to Dan Stankevitz and co-angler Chris Kuehn earning them a combined check for $5250.00. Third place went to Dage and Osterloh. While fourth place went to Doug David and co-angler Jeff Truckenbrod, earning them a combined check for $4050.00. Rounding out the top five with Steven Wagner and co-angler Steve Keller taking home fifth place worth a combined $3000.00.
Toyota Pro Pat Neu claimed the Toyota Walleye Reward money with his 12th place finish and driving his 2008 Toyota Tundra.

Location: Menasha, WI | Nice finish Shep. I see Ritch was only 4 ozs out of the money; if only one of those fish would've eaten a bigger brekafast. |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Survive and advance baby.......that's what this one was all about.
I was very happy to have such a tough bite, considering that my prefishing was about 4 hrs after the first storm on Friday. It would have been great to get a check, but that one 14 3/4" fish was worth it's weight in gold to me!!!
Great job Shep!!!! |

Nice thing about catching a fish on saturday, you just narrowed down the angler of the year race to 36 guys. |

Location: Orland Park, IL | Nice feesh Shep. And great work to Ken on the 7lb 14oz fish. You too Jerry. Spoke with Nate P afterwards. Funny what a cold front can do. Took a big bowl of chili from Trips to get the chill out. Back still a little sore from the pounding on poygan as we ran to the wolf. |

| Thanks, guys! Was a wicked brutal day with the wind and cold. Tough bite prefishing, those were the only walleyes I caught in 10 days! Jesse was a great partner, and the banter helped the day go by pretty fast. Was glad to get home, and sit in front of the fireplace!
Glad to win some money, as I will have to buy a new fuse holder for my console X-111. It would go out when on plane, and I was flying blind on the way in. Not a great feeling when going around the duck blind. When I got it working, I was on plane in 2 1/2 feet of water going around the point. Yikes!
Glad to see jerry get a fish. That is huge in the chase. Walleye X too. Good job. |
