| Every once in a while I see guys with a ratchet strap around there kicker motor when they are running down the lake. Do the guys that do this put the kicker all the way up and strap it or on the traveling block and strap it or how exactly are they doing this? I would like to do it to mine however they are doing it, but every ratchet strap I have tried the ratcheting part of the strap rubs on my kicker motor. How are they doing this? |

| I run mine locked in the up position. I use a rope ratchet, much easier to use, and the "ratchet" part is right next to the hook, so it won't hit your motor.

| Go to www.marinetech.com and get the pro strap. It is made for this application. |

Location: Oshkosh, WI | I think that prostrap is on panthermarineproducts.com
I have tried to use a ratchet strap on my kicker motor too and have had it come loose and start bouncing around. Either I am doing something wrong or there is something wrong with the mechanism that is supposed to lock the motor in the up position. Any ideas on that one? I see the fixed kicker brackets on that panther site, is that what is needed?

| you need to use a good buckle strap! if your strap comes off it can and WILL get caught in you big motor lower unit! i dont care what kind of mount i have a panther, and what kind of kicker motor, if your on big water and its windy and ruff strap the kicker... bolts that hold your kicker to its own mounting bracket (factory) can slowly egg out like an untightend lug nuts on a wheel... in time ruff water and even trailering your kicker will become sloppy and take it from somone who left one on the bottom of the lake ... you learn the hard way... strap them with a top quality buckl strap... and make sure you can take them on and off and be safe about it .. leaning over the back of your boat ... strapping and unstrapping and put you in the water quick! if your alone it could mean your life... cold water and all . when in doubt stap it thats what i always say... now go get them! |

Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | merc pro kickers are nice BUT! they will come off too... spear a wave on the bay it can take your bow mount windshilds and kicker off of the boat in one shot... and it can also take you! nothing like trying to remove your fancy motorguide from your teeth.... how much crap got broaken in the last mwc on the bay of green bay? and Merc pro kickers? i would guess there were. but hey what do i know! |

Location: St Clair Shores, MI | I use the Ram trolling motor mount on my kicker. Attach the ball with the worm drive to the trolling motors carry handle. Then place the other ball & arm so the kicker is in the up position. Make sure the ball is thru bolted and use fender washers on the back side with nylock nuts. Your kicker will never bounce again.

Location: Appleton wi | Bradley do you know someone who had there pro kicker break in rough water? |
|
|

| Boy, i would guess that anyone who has broken there pro kicker is way wild and i never want to ride in there boat. EVER. I have never seen it move on my boat. the t-8's do because they do not have the straightening and tightening straps built in like the pro-kicker.
Bradley, if your bolts are loosening and oblonging there is a cure, LOCK NUTS.

Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | well , i would say .. no matter what brand of boat motor and trailer you buy , always go threw everything.. good dealer prep is important , but double check everything.. yes stainless nuts and bolts screws and all,,, lock nuts too... always make sure your wire harnesses and cables are wrapped and double wrapped where touching a corner or inner cull sidewall.. always make things accessable for cleaning and or troubleshooting . always strap things like your kicker ( unless you have a merc pro kicker ) as other than that motor they can all fall off of your boat at any time!... look the thing is bouncing down the road on the trailer its bouncing around on the lake , there is major vibration and any moving part ANY moving part ( other than the moving parts on the merc pro-kicker) will wear in time ... if there is any movement at all things will rub togather and start to wear... if you buy a new boat every two years then the heck with it... but when you hit the water the last thing you need is dirty electrical contacts.. rusty bolts sharp edges and things falling off of your boat.. pull it out put lock tight on it and put it back togather.. unless you and your pro kicker only fish on fair weather days or for the month of june , then you will never wear out your stuff anyway. i guess im just bitter( i have not been able to upgrade my rig for a wile and mine came with a 98 merc 9.9 with a panther power lift , forward controles electric start and a tr-1 auto pilot... i dont have the new fancy top of the line merc pro kicker... so i must strap my motor and all the crap i have attached to it so that it will be able to compete with all the guys who have a sweet new Merc Pro kicker...
