Limit after limit between 6 and 9 pounds crossed the stage today with reports of much better fishing before the front that rolled through yesterday pushing thunderstorms and a sharp drop in the temperature and the wind. Several oros ran out of fuel, signaling a LONG run to their fish, and several others mentioned runs of up to 55 miles one way.

Tomorrow promises 10 to 20 MPH East winds and rain all day, possibly firing up the bite for the much sought after spawned out female Eyes that were missing in action today.

Lund Mercury Pro Ron Seelhoff leads early in the contest with 10.44, less than a pound ahead of Troy Walwood's second place 9.88. if the bite remains as it was today, that's a good lead.

Here's the standings as of the end of Day One:

1 RON SEELHOFF
2 TROY WALWOOD
3 BRAD RICHARDS
4 JIMMY BELL
5 MARK COURTS
5 JOHN CAMPBELL
5 JOHN SWANSTROM
8 ROBERT CROW
9 BILL SHIMOTA
10 SCOTT STEIL

I'm surprised they are making the run to the big bend. I thought the fish would be at the dam.

Steve (and those helping you out),
Fantastic live audio coverage of the weigh in. For all the tourneys I can't actually make in person, on weigh in days I hurry home from work and immediately put on your webpage so I can listen in on what's happening! Thank you! Not only is the live audio awesome; but you guys are FAST (and accurate) with updating the weights.
Keep up the great work - it's appreciated by those of us at home!

It doesn't surprise me a bit they're making these long runs; give them boundaries and they're bound to run every mile of it. Good to see a familiar face back on top!

While trolling the web I noticed a couple small things.

1. Tom Gatzke isn't on the Yar-Craft Pro Page website.
2. Tom Gatzke didn't have his Yar-Craft pro shirt on today.

Is he still running his 05 1995 TSC, a new 209 TFX as reported in Walleye Insider, or is he in another brand boat?

My interest on this subject is the same as a NASCAR fan wonder which driver is in what car, with what sponsors, etc.

Thanks,
Brian

1. Yar-Craft just may not have updated the website, who knows for sure.

2. If you noticed, not all the guys wore there tournament shirt to the stage. For example, Chad Schilling did not and Tommy Skarlis had his Gore-Tex rain jacket on.

As of the FLW Lake Erie event last month he was still running the same 05' Yar-Craft. But I'm sure Sworrall could clarify for this tournament.

I am with Bdirks, maybe WF could do a quick facts forum on what some of the fisherman are running or if they switched sponsors, boats etc.... Just like NASCAR curiosity.

I agree bdirks, I have been a fan for a long time and there has been one constant in this sport over time, and that is, secretive sponsorships and who's doing what. What amazes me is that the guy spending the money does not do a better job at getting his sponsorship dollars worth out of the fisherman. Thats neither here nor there however.

I just had a talk with a friend the other day and I stated that the one thing this sport needs to grow is fans. The only way to get fans is to get them "Picking" There favorite fisherman. How do you do it? For starters, print a program book for the season. State who the fisherman is and what they fish, boat and motor and sponsor wise. Hand this out free of charge. Let the people know whats going on. This way we dont have to speculate on what gatzke or Bohn or seelhoff is doing this year. And yes, it is our buisness.

I'm for knowing who's running what and sponsored by who, but who would pay for a program book? First thought comes to mind would be the FLW or PWT, but that would probably be pretty costly. So I don't know how that would work. My next thought would be updating all angler profiles on the FLW website and perhaps the PWT needs to do that. I know they put up angler profiles for the championship and who made the championship. But with some guys having quite a few sponsors, that hard copy program would be pretty big and probably expensive. It would be great if whomever could find someone to pay for it, but I have no clue.

I'm not sure hardcopy programs or booklets are required. Why can't the NPAA have detailed angler profiles on their website? I would think that would be an ideal organization to take this on. Afterall, isn't sponsorship help one of the main reasons the NPAA exists?

I have a few other ideas to get to the fan base, but I'm looking at potential income here, so am not ready to divulge any info at this point.

The NPAA website will be completely redesigned very soon. I'd contact Cody Roswick with suggestions and comments.

The technology is here now to make this painless, easy to use and implement along with cost effective (minus the hard copies).

All contestants entering a tournament series can/could simply fill out an online spreadsheet giving all required information. You could include things like:

Name

Sponsors

Martial status

Years of tournament experience

Victories/finishes

Interests/hobbies

A picture of the contestant

A smart organizer can use this digital info to generate a 1/2 page bio of each contestant. It could be as simple as using the connectivity of Excel and Word to generate a booklet.

Allow someone like Brunswick and Ranger to post advertisement within the finished product and you have your paid costs for production.

Web sites like this also have all of the needed information to get the ball rolling if they saw a need, a want, and a profit in it. Just click on any of your favorite anglers from the World Walleye Rankings , you get information like:

Hometown:
Current World Walleye Rank
Highest Rank:
Circuits Fished:
Favorite Technique:
Boat Sponsor:
Motor Sponsor:
Other Sponsors:
Notes:
Times Viewed:

This discussion may have shown the "want". You can see that the required technology and info is already available.

The MWC has booklets that have info on each team that is fishing the circuit. They are free of charge. The anglers send in the photos, bio and list of sponsors. I thought it was a good idea. They had sponsor advertisement in it, I'm sure that's how they offset the cost. I to, would like to see something of that nature. I know a lot of the names, but probably wouldn't recognize them if they were standing next to me.

On a side note, how long do you think it will be before Humminbird becomes the electronics sposor of the FLW. I see a lot of guys running them this year. Plus Humminbird and Minn Kota are owned by the same company if I remember correctly. Not try to start a bash fest, just wondering if anybody has wondered the same thing. BTW, I love my Lowrance units, but the side imaging technology does peak my interest big time. Looking forward to getting out with someone this year that has it, to see how good it really works in most situations that I would be using it.

All the online stuff is ok, however, when it is in print, it can be read anywhere. Mostly in everyones personal library. OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Get the sponsors to cover the cost of the magazine. The flw and the pwt need to do this. They need to spend there monies that they are getting. Will they? well, they have not yet. Maybe AIM will.

So if this will not help build a fan base, what will?

Denny, I agree a "game day program" would be nice. The only problem I could see at this point is the logisitcs to get them "shipped" all over the country. But a minor problem to overcome, since they are already shipping magazines. Heck I remember collecting the Brewer Game day programs when I was a kid.....still a Brewer Fan to this day. Brand loyalty?

But as Mark O stated. The MWC has done the booklet for the "Early Bird" Teams in the past. A nice book in my humble opinion. Lists every team, who they are, their sponsors and other fishing info. It sure asks the question "Why isn't it being done at the "pro" Level?".

How many times have we heard in person or on these websites, Whose driving the such and such wrapped boat. Great sponsor exposure, but more could be done for both the sponsor and the fishermen, again opinion only.

Fishermen that have watched NASCAR and seen the post race interviews could probably learn a few things about sponosr represention.

I can hear it already

Kevin Hunt: Denny Fox can ya tell us more about your technique today on your Lake Winnebago win?

Denny Fox: Kevin, I was trolling out of my Optimax powered Tuffy boat........etc...etc...etc

I think you all get the picture.

I definitely agree with Zach on this one. This should be done by the NPAA if you ask me. This is an anglers owned/run organization. These are things that the NPAA should be looking at doing. I'd love to see the FLW or PWT do something but I've seen first hand how that goes, all I say is good luck with that one.

quite frankly I dont see the NPAA doing anything. the npaa doing this will not promote the fisherman in seperate circuits, it willl doit as a whole. They have had plenty of time to do such a thing and have failed. they mearly did a online bio. I am not sure that I have spelled out everything correctly. There is one thing however, never look for someone else to do your work, just do it yourself.

I agree Stacker, I don't see them doing anything, but I think they if anyone should. Just my opinion. But yes, I agree, I don't see it happening anytime soon. But I don't see why they couldn't promote both circuits. They have fisherman that are part of the NPAA that fish both, and they all, meaning all who are members of the NPAA that fish professional should be able to promote both circuits. Isn't the job of the NPAA suppose to promote the circuits and the anglers that fish?

The problem lies in the fact that not everyone who fishes the circuits are a member of the NPAA and probably never will be.

Thus, the circuits themselves need to promote there anglers.
