Location: Darboy USA | Here's a question for all you Winnebago guys. What kind of interest would there be for a weekly walleye league? I know that weekly bass leagues are very popular down around Madison, so I was thinking if the interest is there maybe get some type of walleye league on Bago.
It could be similar to a golf league, 2 man teams and on weeks when one can't make it we have a list of alternates to fish, etc. Depending on interest it could be as big or small as needed. We could do different contests each week as well and have an end of the year banquet like most golf leagues do.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this concept? We could try to tie in a local bar or restaurant as well and for those that feel like stopping for a beer or meal after the fishing we could all b.s. about the fishing, etc. My initial thought is make it a 3-4 hour event after work one night per week for maybe 8-12 weeks depending on weather.

| Great idea but remove the "team" format and you might have a great start....There are a number of threads discussing it already. Shouldn't be to hard to get a major trail sponsor to offer a spot at a super tourney for the league winners. The business model already exists in the Bass world but it would take a great bunch of guys to get it off the ground in the walleye world. |

| Can we tell our spouses that it will be a 10-12 hour event every week and that we might have to go into overtime to see who the winner is?

| Remove the team format? Why? and how?
A number of threads? This is the first I have seen.
I'd consider it. I know the Muskie guys do this, too. Worrall has one on Tuesday nights up by the Hideout. They fish a different body of water each week. I think they have a two boat team format, too. I'll try to get the rules and format description.
You going to be the organizer? Let me know how I can help.

| Whats so funny? the bass guys rotate boaters all the time and have their own livewells in their leagues. Like I said there are many threads all over the net talking about "individual" league events where you fish for your own fish. THEY have it figured out already. Personaly I like the idea better than people picking up submerged coolers out in the lake someplace!
Good Luck

Location: Oshkosh,WI | I am sorry I did not see this thread earlier - I have been fishing the last 14 days! I am involved with a Wednesday / Thursday league that is run out of Jerrys Bar in Oshkosh. It is run on your honor and the reason it is two days is because it gives people more options as to when they can fish -morning, day, night etc.... I would encourage anyone interested to get more info - I can tell you the league is only two weeks deep and it is run on a point system - there is also a weekly prize for big fish.
Let me know if you are interested and I will get you the league info.

Location: Darboy USA | Thanks for the responses so far guys. I've been doing some digging and found that there is a MN fishing league that looks to have the format down pretty well. There is one run out of Duluth that would be a good model to start following. I've also found some other fishing leagues in WI that I would take ideas from as well.
I do agree with Tyee about cheating and having each guy fish for their own fish, but walleye fishing is different than bass in that you can run multiple lines, techniques, etc. Would be tough on a trolling bite unless that guy just keeps what is caught on his side of the boat. Lots of questions on how to do it, but agree it would be good to deter cheating. I would hope that those involved wouldn't cheat though as it's more of a fun league and hopefully wouldn't be so cutthroat.
As far as organizing, etc I would be willing to do most of the startup work, but I'm sure I would need some help and would certainly be willing to accept offers for those that want to help. My thought would be to run it out of Calumet Cty Park just because that would be convenient for me based on where I live. Plus, there are bait shops, bars, restaurants, etc in the Stockbridge area that would probably help cater to the fisherman.
If anyone has thoughts or ideas to share please let me know. I would certainly be willing to hear if any circuits would be interested in supporting it on any level. I have been talking with those involved with AIM as well as this could be a great feeder program to their cause possibly.
Let's keep the discussion going to see if we can come up with something worthwhile for all those interested.

| Here is some info on the Rhinelander Muskie League. This is a fun league, and they really seem like they have a good time.
4 person teams, each has a sponsor, $50 a person, $100 a sponsor, we have a 12 week season, we pay out 50, 25, 10, for the 3 largest fish of the nite, we also have a $50 drawing each nite, hours of fishing are from 5-9, honor system so if you get out early no registration til after 5 or before 9. We do have registration sheets that are pretty basic, name, size fish, and a witness other than your boat partner!! There is more than likely someone near or a cell phone is pretty handy as well to call someone over or to shoot a pic although this hasn't happened yet, basically honor system as well but we have had issues each of the last 2 years with an early fish and bogus registrations, some people are asses I guess!! We get jackets for the top team and trophy for the bar that wins it. Second gets nada....... We have a banquet at the end of the year really nice alot of door prizes usually, that in a nutshell is it, we have had up to 12 teams and we presently have 8. 12 teams is alot of boats on some of the smaller lakes. We have 2 meetings prior to season , 1 for sign up and to go over rule changes and lakes to be fished and the other is to wrap things up and get ready. |

Location: Darboy USA | Thanks for the info Shep. That might be an idea for the team concept, just trying to figure out how to do the teams, especially if guys work shifts, etc. Maybe each team is 3 guys and then they can rotate as needed throughout the season? |
