| I pretty started with a Rev 4 21 and liked it, what have you guys found when running a Tempest on a 1890? What pitch and speed difference?
200 OPTI also
I was wondering since they added the wedges to the bottom, btw it handles awsome. |

| Thanks, in poking around and asking if it works why fix it, Rev 4 it is, the 1890 is one of the faster boats in a tourny anyway.

Zach,
Your running a 175 suzi though aren't you? An 1890 with a 200 Opti and kicker you'll be pushing 60 if not low 60's pending load, and that's with a Rev 4 ss prop.

last year i ran an 1890 with a 200 Opti and kicker, full standard load, etc.
59 mph with a Tempest
54 mph with a HiFive
the Tempest was a rocket and put you back in your seat; however, the "feel" was a bit rough and the HiFive was infinitely smoother and offered better handling.
i didn't run a Rev4; i'd assume it's a fair compromise between the two, but i sure don't see it running low 60s.
similarly rigged, loaded, and running a Tempest prop, my current X-190 is quicker and faster (65mph) while also managing the control and ride that i got with the HiFive on last year's rig. see the video i posted last night for an example.
of course, running home in 3-foot waves/45mph gusts last Saturday night i was longing for the extra 5-6" of freeboard and windshield that were on the other 1890...boats selection is all about compromises.

Yep, 175 and 9.9 Suzuki, only me, no water in the well and limited gear is running 47 mph gps tops. At least the boat looks a lot faster than that I LOVE the boat but it sure isn't as quick as I thought it would be ![](https://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/board/images/emoticons/frown.gif) |

wow, with a 175 it should be a lot faster than that.
Norm's 200hp Suzi pushes his 1890 within a few mph of the 200 Opti.
i know Zach B.'s 175hp Merc XS pushes his X-190 at 60+mph, you'd think the 175 Suzi would be within a few mph of that.
is it a prop issue?

Lambeau, my bad. Sworrall was running an 1890 DS in 06' with just a 200 Opti and no kicker with a Rev 4. That's why he was pushing 60.
However, the 1890 GDC he was running with a 200 Opti with a high 5 and a ProKicker and that was a bullet. I know that boat was pushing 60, actually 61 or so. But that 1890 was without the gunnel cap. That's a couple hundred pounds lighter also. |

| i run a 21 high 5, 59-64mph ,this spring i hit 63.4 gps speed with myself and about 10gal of gas the high five is the prop to run for me. my boat runs nice at around 45-50mph, trying to save gas this year. |

We have tried a LOT of props!!! I guess the next thing may be to try a Merc prop? |

Yes, that would be a good idea. I'm not sure if Norm is running a Merc prop on his 200 Suzi or not but Sworrall might have some suggestions. I would think a 23 or 21 tempest might work. Maybe even a Rev 4 or High 5 depending on what your looking to do. Of course your High 5 and Rev 4 are going to provide better handling and performance while your 3 blade tempest will provide the greatest speed.
But with so many Suzi props it's tough to find the right one. I would definitely look at the Merc props.

| Norm was running a great big Suzy prop. It was like 16" diameter. The big thing with that Suzy 4 Stroke is that it is geared way lower(higher numerically) than the Merc and Yammy 4 strokes. So, whatever pitch works on a Suzy would theoreticaly be lower for a Merc, especially a Verado, or a Yammy, 4 stroke. DI motors would be totally different yet. Problem is non supercharged 4 strokes have no low end torque, so hole shot suffers. Suzuki tries to help this with a lower gear, but it seems you need a bigger diameter prop then. I think maybe a rev 4 might not be a bad choice for that 175. Bigger diameter and more blade surface than that of a three blade.
I would think that 175 should push that boat to 50-54 depending on load. I get 58 out of mine, 200 Opti, full tourney load. Before the wedges were installed, I saw 61. Less fuel, and alone, I can still touch 60. That is with a 21 Rev 4 @ 5300 RPM. Have not tried a Tempest, but would like too, just for giggles.

| Zach,
Make a visit to Tim Mertens (power tiller steering) and his brother. Best in the business with motors and props. They hae all the props to try and have been doing it for years. |
