Location: Stevens Point, WI | Lake Bemidji was hot for last year's FLW event, but the lake wasn't so friendly yesterday. Seventy eight boaters and co-anglers took to the waters of Lake Bemidji to battle out for the thirty spots in the FLW League Championship in Winona, MN on September 11-13.
Many anglers were just down right confused with current conditions on the lake. A local tournament last weekend was won with 5lbs and some change. However, the team of Harv Lueck and Dana Delp figured things out to put 15lbs and 10ounces in the livewell. Pulling spinners and crawlers in 30+ foot of water, they claimed the top spot and a combined check for $8190.00.
With the exception of the winners, majority of the field was either rigging with Red tail chubs or jigging with night crawlers in varying depths but most were in 20+ feet of water. Some caught as many as 40 fish and some were just glad to get a fish in the boat; the bite from many perspectives was just down right confusing.
Bret Setterholm and co-angler Jake Persson claimed second and a combined check for $4095.00. That also was good enough for Setterholm to make the League finals.
Frabill pro Brian Brosdahl and co-angler Kevin Powell boxed 13lbs and 11ounces; good enough to claim third place and a combined check for $3810.00.
Tim Chick claimed his second check for $1000 from Toyota as the Toyota Walleye Rewards program winner placing 11th with 10lbs and 1ounce. He took home a combined check for $1390 with his winnings and for driving a 2007 or newer Toyota Tundra.
