68 degrees, moderate South winds, and the promise of cloud cover and a few showers set the stage for the opening ceremonies of day three at the FLW Walleye Tour tournament in Escanaba.

Evinrude/Ranger Pro Pat Byle headed out with what amounts to a very slim lead for Bays De Noc considering the big fish possibilities. He said he is a little nervous, but intend to do what he did the last two days and not swing for the fence until the final day, and then only if he's not still holding down first place. Pat is doing what most of the rest of the field seems to be doing; pulling crawler harnesses. His key is holding on fish that look to be up in the water column and active, coaxing that fish into hitting.

G3/Yamaha Pro Chad Schilling is heading out in second, putting what he described in a WalleyeFIRST video interview this morning as a 'disappointing day' yesterday behind him. Carrying a basket to the stage here in this event that weighed over 15 pounds could hardly be called a disappointment for many, but Chad felt he could have done much better and intends to do just that today. He's also pulling harnesses, but his key is fishing alone, out of the packs of boats on small, concentrated spots that he can see all at once and move from one to the other all day.

Winds are to be South Southwest today at 10 to 20, with possible showers and storms this afternoon. That makes most of the field happy because of the clear water and already tough bite as a result of the alewives being in the and mayfly hatch. Most want wind or clouds. Today, they will get both.

A shootout will occur today for Angler of the Year, pitting Ted Takasaki against Pete Harsh. Everything depends on big fish for both today.
