| I tried moving the 200 E-tec to the top hole to get more prop in the water. It didn't help the cocking to the passenger side at lower planing speeds. It didn't help the 23 pitch Renegade with the weed ring installed bite on take off, it still cavitated uncontrollably on full throttle. I had to sneak up to plane gently with that prop.
I bit the bullet and moved the kicker way over to the driver's side, almost to the end of the metal plate on the inside of the transom. It helped the cocking at lower planing speeds but did nothing for the cavitation. But now the tiller whacks the big motor or cables on hard turns with the extension handle on and quick steering and speed changes are much more difficult. The boat ran 52mph GPS ground speed at 5500 RPM with the 23 pitch Renegade.
I switched back to my 20 pitch Raker and ran 54 mph at 5850 Rpm. I can't trim up enough to go unstable. I have an I-Command LCD gage with Trim indication. It will slowly increase to 92%. That is as far as it will go (I never hear the trim go past trim pump noises to tilt noises while running like on my old 150HP Johnson) and when I let my thumb off of the trim switch it instantly reads 78% trim. I hit the trim switch again and the gage climbs back to 92% but the motor never seems to move and then it reads 78% as soon as I let off the switch. I am thinking that it is the trim that is killing the top end. I have a hard time believing that lambeau runs 65 mph with a 23 pitch three blade prop and similar loads, and I run 52 GPS ground speed with a 23 pitch 4 blade prop without some major problem on my rig. Can a prop by itself make 13mph difference? I'm open to ideas before I get in touch with the dealer to try a 23 pitch Tempest prop and possibly another engine heigth. I'm getting tired of making changes that do nothing to the top end. | |
