| I am curious where do small river system walleye go, during the fall cool down. I am talking riversystems with some backwaters, but mostly a 20 to 40 foot wide channel.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Location: Rhinelander | Deep pools and any current breaks will hold fish now on the smaller rivers. Since there are no 'wing dams', one needs to find the equivalent using 'natural structure', and fish that break like one would a dam.
Also, depending on the flow and forage, I find some walleyes on the flats on weed edges and rocks this time of year if the current is slack. Maybe some of the other river rats can answer too.... | |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | I had about a 3 paragraph answer all typed up and hit the wrong button on the Keyboard and sent it to PC heaven. Kinda made me mad, so I haven't got the ambition to do it all over again. I'll paraphrase. Think of a smaller river as a bigger river. Downscale it all. If 3 foot is now a deep pool, fish it. If this river is a migration route to spawning or to another larger body of water, fish it seasonally harder during those times when both bait and water temps are optimum.

| Thanks guys, most of my walleye experience is lake fishing, but my dad wants to go out and try some local rivers this fall. I'll give some of this a shot.
