A while back I started a page on my website called fishing-isms. It is a page where people can submit their funny quotes or sayings. We have several so far and I am wondering what some of you say or do while in the boat. Below is a current list that I have, I would love to add some more. Keep them clean and funny....

Skunked= Going fishing and not catching anything.

NPD- Non-productive downtime after you lose a jig or bait and have to retie!

Get Da Frabill- Telling your partner to get the net so you can land a fish.

Black on Da Back- Running a Mercury motor. (What else is there!)

Running Meat- The act of using a crawler harness or Scootchie Rig to try and catch some walleyes.

Reefing and Gaffing= Going trolling

Goats= Sheepshead

Scummers= Whitebass

Perch Jerkin' = Going fishing for perch

Snakes= Small Northern Pike

Running Meat= Pulling crawler harnesses using night crawlers as bait while trolling

Cranks- Pulling different types of crankbaits while trolling

Gills= Another name for a Bluegill

Bugle Trout= White Suckers or Redhorse

Boilers= Anything other than a chinook, coho or rainbow from Lake Michigan

Minnow Wench= non-fishing friend in college that we would buy a six pack for with the expectation that he would run up and down the river bank feeding us minnows during the walleye run (used in context: "Hey Minnow Wench, get down here, I'm empty!")

Salad Shooter= a boat propeller that's seen a couple of gravel piles. Cuts through weed beds better than a new, smooth prop.

Smelt= past tense of what flatulence results in (used in context: "That one really smelt! Prolly gonna itch when it dries!")

Toothy Mother= large northern pike

Stump Carp= largemouth bass

Trolling for bikinis= Fishing off the swimming beach

Sewer Salmon= Bullheads

Wood Bass= Snagged on a stump or catching a stick

Mr. Whiskers= Catfish

Game Warden= Carp Cop

Anchor= wife

Nag-O-Meter= cellphone

The Mud= An area in the middle of Lake Winnebago, mainly used for trolling

Chocolate Milk= An area where the water is very stirred up and resembles chocolate milk in color.

Pork Chop In A Can= Beer

That'll make the team= Keeper in a tournament

Got Shoulders= Big Eye

Big Creeker= Someone that just saw you catch a fish and pulls next to you

Salad= Refers to having a clump of weeds wrapped up in your line, or on the floor of your boat, or wrapped around your prop.

Shaker- A small salmon or trout you catch while trolling on Lake Michigan

Legless lizards = Lake Trout (No teeth. No scales. No spines.)

Swing and a miss= When you miss a bite

Long distance release= Fish getting off prior to being netted or landed

Cigars= Small walleyes

Bottom Bass= Snag

Lock Jaw = Fish are not biting

Roll 'em = Time to bring in the trolling spread

Pick 'em & stick 'em = Bringing in the trolling spread

3 to a side, 6 boards wide = Trolling spread

Winder= One who likes to reel in fish but cares little for knowing about the process. Common on charters both on the Great Lakes and saltwater.

Getting Slimed= To catch a musky. "I finally got slimed" or "Boat got slimed for the first time this year."

Speckled Suckers= Crappies for Muskies

Bloaters/ Goatheads = sheepshead

SWR ( Secret Weapon Rig) = 2 or 3 color lead pulled on a downrigger

Runin and Gunin = running from area to area looking for active fish

Fishing on Credit= pull up the line and see nothing but a bare hook

Crawler Ball- Glob a bunch of night crawlers on a hook and cast it for anything that will bite.

"Here we go!"- What Axl says when a flag goes down on a planner board as he jumps to the rod.

Jeet et?- What your partner says when he is getting hungry.

Green Carp- What walleye guys call Smallmouth Bass

4 wheel drive- A mud Puppy
