| I was wondering if anyone uses or has opinions on hydrofoil accessories on motors?
I was also wondering if one put one of these things on your motor, would it affect the ability to add a trolling plat later?

| I BOUGHT A STINGRAY HYDROFOIL FOR MY YAMAHA 90 H.P. IT WASN'T THE THING TO DO FOR MY SET UP. I THOUGHT IT WOULD HELP INCREASE MY SPEED BUT I LOST BETWEEN 3 TO 5 MPH. I NEVER DID HAVE PORPISING PROBLEMS BUT I JUST WANTED TO GIVE IT A TRY. I'VE READ COUNTLESS ARTICALS ABOUT THE HYRDOFOILS AND FROM WHAT I'VE READ THEY DO WORK ON THE RIGHT CONFIGURATION. IT REALLY WORKS GOOD FOR HOLE SHOT AND HELPS IN ROUGH WATER. IT ALSO WORKS IF YOUR INTO WATER SKIING AND TUBEING. I HAVE A BRAND NEW ONE IF YOUR INTERESTED. I'LL SELL IT FOR HALF PRICE. JUST LEAVE ME A PM AND I'LL GET BACK TO YOU. IT FITS ANYTHING OVER A 40 H.P. I HOPE THIS HELPS IN ANY WAY. |

| When you say "the right configuration", what would that configuration be?
I guess that I should also elaborate on my "configuration". I have a 16 1/2' aluminum fishing boat that I'm putting a new 50HP on. My old motor, which I had gotten used, was a 25HP that already had a hydrofoil when I bought it.
I will also add that I do fish when it's rough and the combination of better handling in rough water, holeshot and topspeed all factor in.

| I GUESS I COULD HAVE USED A DIFFERENT WORD THAN "CONFIGURATION" .
I MOUNTED A BOW MOUNT TROLLING MOTOR AND ADDED TWO BATTERIES TO THE BOW JUST AFTER I PUT THE HYDROFOIL ON MY MOTOR. IT DIDN'T DO MUCH IF ANYTHING FOR MY HOLESHOT. I DID HOWEVER TRY IT IN SOME FAILY BIG CHOP AND IT SEEMED TO HELP STABILIZE MY BOAT BETTER. I RUN AN ALUM V165 G3 WITH A 90 H.P. YAMMI WITH A WALK THRU WINDSHEILD. DEEP VEE.
IF YOUR GOING TO PUT A 50 H.P. ON YOUR BOAT IT MIGHT BE WORTH A TRY TO TRY OUT A HYDROFOIL. IT MY KEEP YOUR BOAT FROM PORPISING IF IT EVER HAPPENS. I HAVE A BUDDY DOWN THE ROAD WHO SWEARS BY THEM AND HAS HAD THEM ON HIS BOATS AS FAR BACK AS HE CAN REMEMBER. THE REASON I TOOK MINE OFF IS BECAUSE I TRIMED OUT MY MOTOR LIKE I NORMALLY DO AND IT STARTED CAVITATING ON ME AND CAUSED MY BOAT TO PRETTY MUCH COME OUT OF THE WATER. SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME SCENCE I'M IN A WHEELCHAIR AND WASN'T PREPARED FOR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS "THE HYDROFOIL JUST WASN'T FOR MY SET UP." |

| I don't think you'll need the foil with that 50 HP on your boat. They put them on to help holeshot on underpowered boats. That boat will not be underpwered with that 50. I'd work with props when you get it on the water, if the prop it comes with does not perform up to your satisfaction. No way would I put the foil on before I had it on the water. |

| SHEP,
THAT WAS A GOOD ANSWER. TRY PROPS FIRST. CHANCES ARE YOUR 50 H.P. WILL BE A GOOD MATCH UP RIGHT AWAY. |

| I've used one on every boat so far. I had one on my predator with a pro 50 yammy. Which increased speed, lift and took a lot of the torque away from the handle when it came time to steer. Gained a little speed with my 1775 pro-v, better steering cause of the tiller handle torque at slower to mid speeds, Put a cobra foil on my 2010 pro guide with 175 opti and helped for the front bow lift and to lift at mid throttle ranges. It kind of made my rig plane better at the mid rpm range and where I don't have to run at wide open throttle. Ran it for 8 mths before I put it on. |
