| On Sunday, after watching Larry and John catch 20+ walleyes in the mud off Oshkosh on Bago .... even I might take up ice fishing. They sure made it look easy.
Larry said they catch them like this every day for the next 2 months, is this really true??? Day and night? Looks like a blast as long as the ice is safe.

| This weeks show is Vilas county lakes, I believe they were fishing bago on 12-20. It is very UNCOMMON to get 20 walleyes icefishing out there anytime. I don't know of any one person with that kind of success. I have seen some 10-20 fish days for 2 people or more but more often than not its a few here and there, now whities are another story, I have seen 600 fish days through the ice.....NOW THATS FUN!
They were out there at what I would call first ice and probably hit it just right, I think you'd be better off hitting the end of the seazson run in late Feb early March, as they stage for the run up the river, action picks up with Perch Whities and Walleyes!
Good Luck

| It looked to me they were on big Butte des morts. Some where between the 41 bridge and Winneconne. I think they had a part in the show that showed Big Butte des morts lake but they were calling it Winnebago. I know this fall Larry and John Galespie were fishing right by me and they didn't have a net. They were calling that show Freemont but they were actually by the mouth of the rat river. |

| Andy,
I'm not an icefisherman so I did not watch the program lookng for signs on the show that I would know, but it looked like they were fishing a long way from shore and Larry talked about the fish moving around in the deep water over mud. He said they were not out as far as usual because the ice was only 8 inches thick. I don't know if the cameras make everything look off in the distance, but it looked a ways from the shore.
It sure did look like fun, but I know the second I buy everything I need, just like I did 10 years ago, the fishing will turn to crap and I'll be left with $900 worth of stuff to store until I get another urge to get cold.

What does that mean, Its uncommon to get 20 walleyes ice fishing anytime but you have seen 10-20 fish days for 2 or more people. I would bet they had more than 2 people on the ice that day. I am confused. Are you talking bago or vilas? Have ta ask tyee |

| "This weeks show is Vilas county lakes, I believe they were fishing bago on 12-20."
This explains the time line. The most recent show was in Vilas county and the show on Bago that PS referenced was a couple weeks ago. An interpretation from an unbiased reader.
"I have seen some 10-20 fish days for 2 people or more but more often than not its a few here and there,"
The quote with the word some not deleted, would imply that it is possible but very unlikely to catch that amount of eyes. In other words, PS was on the right tract to be suspicious of 10 or 20 fish days on a regular basis. Again, my interpretation. |

| Thanks Gillman that was the intended observation to PS's post. While ice fishing Bago is not easy it can be fun for some that know what they are doing, and with the amount of time Larry puts in there he knows the places and conditions needed for such success, that show is by no means a representation of every day fishing, there are plenty of guides in the area that can show you what you need to know but Dec and Jan are no comparison to May and June, when many people have 20 fish days more regularly. Jayman and Stacker....wow.....I'm not the man meat you'd like me to be, and I'd be the first to admit my fishing skills revolve more around Luck so knock that chip off your shoulders and go fishing.
Good Luck

| PS,
I watched the show PS is talking about. Granted, I was on a bunch of meds from my recent knee surgery, but I swear they said they were on Poygan. At one point they reference fishing in about 10ft of water, which sounds like the hole. It sounds like a reasonable place to start seeing as how the walleyes were biting so good in the mouth of the Wolf very late in the Fall. I'm guessing there's a lot of fish in the upper lakes right now.

Here is the link to the show.
All I can say is that I am jealous - I don't catch fish like that through the ice on winnebago - ever. I have not been on bago yet this winter. I went to the landing by Menominee Park yesterday. Looks like people are driving on there and driving across the crack. Does anyone have an ice update? I am off work tomorrow and going fishing.
Anybody who wants to help me out would be making your charitable contribution before the end of the year!! |

| Mark, they were on Poygan in the morning that Sat. near us. We headed to the West end for Pike and they headed off to Butte or Bago, I didn't see the show. The Pike bite on Poygan is hot right now with fish near 40" being caught as well as some walleyes. If your looking to get into the ice thing this would be a great year, I don't remember the last time I was able to drive out on the lakes before New Years. It is going to make for a nice long season.
Good Luck

Location: Oshkosh, Wisconsin | 20 walleye days on Lake Winnebago through the ice are kinda like 10 foot deep holes on Poygan and 30 inch walleye ANYWHERE on the winnebago system. You hear about them from time to time, but the photo's of things like that always end up looking like picture of Bigfoot or the Lochness Monster.

| I did not see the show either, but based on the 100+ trucks out on Poygan yesterday, I would guess it was Poygan too.
My day went exactly the same as Larry's except without all those pesky fish interrupting all the time.

Location: Omro,Wi. | It's very possible and happens a lot, you have to know the lake and get somewhat lucky to be there ( the spot on spot) at the right time. Two weeks ago I was catching walleyes for an hour, fast as you could put on a minnow. Sad part is it lasted for only a hour a day, every day for 2 weeks when they came up on the reef to feed towards dark. Now that the bridges are out they have gone, because they don't like traffic in their dining room. As you may have guessed it was a shallow water bite.
P.S. It was Bago we were on.
