Location: Spring Valley,Il. | Does anybody here know if current(such as trolling in rivers)has a effect on the accuracy of a dive curve?Seems to me that when using the dive curves from percision trolling,that I have to let out more line than what the dive curve shows when trolling in current.Has anybody else had the same results?Thanks in advance for any information. |

Location: Chicago IL. | It has more to do with the current/water against the line,, holding things up. Also you have to make sure your crank is running perfect, if not it will roll on you. Current really exploits this. There is no way of getting a set dive curve in current, too many varibles. It is trial and error for the most part. |

| My observation is less line when pulling with the current as the current pushes your line down, and more when pulling into the current, as it tends to push the line up. |

Location: Lincoln Park, Mi | Honestly, you'll probably have to plot your own curves for individual rivers, or even areas. I troll the Detroit River with a current up to 7mph in some areas. I've begun some plotting of curves here for myself. In the faster areas, trolling upstream, my line out is up to 3x what is stated in Precision Trolling. Slower areas, it's around 2x. I just put a sticky note on the page and keep making notes for curves in different areas. One project this winter is to put it into Excel and print out the curves and laminate them. |

No...The water on top is moving a lot faster than the water on the bottom of the river. The river bottom causes friction with the water, the bottom has more pressure from the water above, etc.. The top water, where your boat is measuring speed is moving faster than the water on the bottom where your lure is running.
Ever slide a deck of cards across the table? The top ones go the farthest.

| Actually, current is slowest on the 4 sides, top,bottom and either bank due to resistance. Yes, the air at the surface has substantial resistance. In general, the middle sections of water move the fastest. This info comes from MANY In-fisherman articles and many pro seminars that I have attended.
