| Can any of you guys give any tips on slowing down an E-tech for trolling. Ive got a 2006 Evinrude E-Tech 200 on an Alumcraft Tournament 185. At best I can onlly slow her down to 2.2- 2.4 without any sea anchors, trolling plates etc. Never tried the sea anchors. How easy are they to set and troll with? Any special considerations while using them? Is there anything to slow your rpms down too reduce speed computer chip??? electronics?? Am I expecting too much in wanting my 200 troll down that slow?

| I use two 25" drift socks off the front cleats to controll my trolling speed when I have to. Dedicate these to the front, and attach just enough line to put the end of the bags a couple feet in front of the transom when running to keep them out of the way of netting fish, and setting lines. Put a big enough loop in the tag end to quickly run through the cleats, and remove easily. When going to plane, bring them in and roll them up. I have a small bungee strap to hold them down to the deck.
These socks slow me down at least 1 MPH or more. They help with your boat control by keeping the bow down, too.

| Shep,
Do you wrap the ropes with anything to keep it from scuffing the glass do to the constant 'sawing' of the ropes, or isn't that an issue? |

| Not an issue for me. I did see a little paint scuffing when I did this on my Lund. |

It is attached on both sides so we un-attach whatever side the fish is coming in on then re-attach after netting it. |

| That'll work, too, Rich. I tried my medium Drop N Stays last year on Green Bay with the socks, and they worked just fine. You could always jump in my boat for a day, and I'll get you on a big fish!
As to the rope scuffing the boat question. I use the soft 1/2" nylon rope.

How do you rig the bag like that? Is that a homemade set-up or is there something off the shelf? |

| I have a 90hp E-Tec. Brought it to a dealer and had them lower the RPMs at idle from the factory 750 down to around 550. Dropped over .5 mph. After that I would think double bags under the boat would be your next best bet. I was recommended trolling bags by Amish Outfitters (?) on another site a while back when I had the same question about my engine. It is the small two bag system, cheap too. |

That is one of my Drop-n-Stay Deuces. The double bag off the front is the better way to go but the one thing I will say for using the Deuce is that the stretch slows you down much more then without it. |

For my running 2 off the bow is impractical, too much climbing over seats and around the kids. Looks like I'll have to get an order in for the Deuce. Any recommendations for a good drift bag to couple with it (14.5' Deep v Lund)? |

| Thanks to all for the input.
Viking beat me to it. Any recommendations on drift bags? Or warnings on which ones NOT to buy?

| The best trolling bags you will find are Amish Outfitter Beefy Bags. These are super heavy duty and made for trolling....not drifting. I would suggest a couple of 28 inch bags and to run them off of your spring cleats amidship (if you have them). Make sure to attach a rope in the back to pull them in easier.
Run that motor like you stole it after trolling to help avoid fouling of your spark plugs.

| Bring your boat into your dealer and have them bump the rpms down. They can do it quickly by hooking it up to a computer and pushing a few buttons. Got my 115hp on my 1750 Reatta down to 1.6mph @500rpms. |

| My dad and I use the same setup as Rich S. We have not had a problem with any eyes, big or small |

| I use a similar setup, i put my drift sock out the back but i hook it up on a set of eveners that i use for pulling kids on the wake boards. The only trouble i have is that in current its tough to turn the boat, so i drop down my front electric and use the remote control from the drivers seat to turn the boat. |
