I have a few qestions which i hope someone can help with. I have a 1775 pro-v with a 70 4-stk evinrude tiller. prop size 13.25 X 17. GPS says approx. 36 mph at w.o.t. @5600 rpm.
#1 I was thinking of going to a newer 90 of some sort, but how much would this change top end speed. Not really intrested in paying alot for afew mph
#2 With current set up, at mid range and in some chop I get some steering torque, would a stableizer help in this problem or add more?
#3 with current set up would a 13.25 X 19 pitch prop do anything?
thanks

FIRST OFF IF YOU JUMP 20 H.P. ON A MOTOR BE PREPARED FOR A LITTLE STICKER SHOCK. THEY ARE SPENDY.
2ND. IF YOU GO TO THE 19 PITCH PROP YOU'LL LOOSE RPM'S BUT GAIN ON TOP END SPEED. YOUR HOLE SHOT WILL BE A LITTLE SLOWER.
YAMAHA MAKES A REAL NICE 90 H.P. FOUR STROKE WITH AN RPM RANGE FROM 5000 TO 6000. WITH THE RIGHT PROP YOUR GOOD TO GO AND THAT 90 TROLL'S SOOOOOOOOOOOO NICE. I HAVE A 90 WITH A 13 1/2 X 16 S.S PROP ON A 17 W.T. AND I RUN RIGHT AT 35 TO 38 MPH DEPENDING ON GAS, WATER, GEAR.

Does the boat hp. rating allow you to use a 90 hp.?? On a 1775 tiller?

The boat is rated for a 80 hp and afew of the dealiers i've talked to said it wouldn't be a problem.i gust don't know if the trade off of what i'd gain is worth the price?
thanks for your comments

Dealers said it would be no problem? Care to share which dealers those are? I need to know who to avoid if I ever have any problems.

What year is the Evi 4 stroke? I wouldn't over power a boat. Not worth it if you ever had an insurance issue.

the 70 is a 2000.
yes the 90 would be over the limit, and may not be the way to go. just seeing what opinions are out there. the dealer said that he knows that the 90 would be over the h.p but given the weight of the boat it wouldn't be an issue.
thanks

The boat can handle the 90 for sure. Not sure if your insurance would cover it if you had a problem? Might be too much of a risk. I'd find out about the legality before going over the HP limit. Not sure if the dollars to upgrade would be worth the couple MPH you'd get.

yea, i'm starting to think that the hassle is not worth the few mph. i guess if i wanted to go faster i should have bought one with a wheel, but i wanted a tiller so be it

I would look at the 75 optimax if you are going to power up. It will run circles around the 4 stroke evey. JMO
