Location: LaCrosse, WI | It went pretty well today. We kept 5 nice fish. We left without live bait on purpose so we would not fall back into the jigging live bait rigs or jigs as a stand by if the first thing didn't work. I won a St. Croix Avid from Everts Resort and picked that up today. I chose the 69MLXF, what a sweet rod it was.
I got it set up with a Pflueger President and 8lb Fireline Crystal. 4 of our keepers came on 3 ways with stickbaits, and the biggest was about 3-1/2 lb eye that fell victim to a blade bait (first fish caught on the new rod). We have a lot of work to do, to master this whole plastics thing though.
Dean at Everts had pictures of 3 or 4 big girls caught early this morning. We didn't arrive and get on the water until about 8. I can see why people love it up there. We caught our fish about 5 miles below the dam, that allows people to spread out more than they typically do here on pools 7,8, and 9. I heard the landing in Trempeleau is open now, I can't wait to get out there. Leadcore trolling on 7 in March is one of my absolute favorite ways to catch those sumo Saugers. |
