I've always jig fished on a floating raft on a sandbar but my kids (and the wife) want to fish from a boat. So I broke down and got one. Now I'm a little lost. Aside from anchoring right in front of my floating dock, I'm not really sure how to get on fish. I've always done the early morning/ early evening fishing but the kids will probably not want to get up that early so I am thinking more midday fishing. I'm hoping for some advice on what depth I should be targeting along with what kind of structure/current breaks I should be trying to find. I'm near Hortonville so the river is a lot narrower than the New London or Fremont areas. If it were just me, I'd give it the old college try and learn it the hard way but since I'll have the kids along I'd like to speed up the learning curve, a fish in the boat goes a long way toward keeping them insterested. Any advice for a new guy would be greatly appreciated.

Fish the current breaks, trees, sand bars, I fish alot north of Shiocton and our best spots are some fallen trees and sand bars, fish will be taking breaks getting out of the current, with kids it would probally be easier for you and your kids to anchor upstream of a spot and let jigs tumble down stream, three ways will work good also.

My advice would be to wait for some warmer weather(down run), bring along plenty of food and drink for the kids and fish the current breaks, structure etc. Keep your outings short (few hours) unless you are catching fish.

Another thought: The white bass run will be happening shortly. The temps are warm and the fishing fast. Great fun lots of action for kids.
