A friend of mine built a Wausau home in Chilton, it was a very nice place and I could not tell the difference between his house and a custom built stick house when everything was complete, by no means am I an expert on home building, but I do know he got a good price for it when he sold it.

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Manufactured homes have come a long way in the last 20 years. In order to compete in a very competitive market, the companies making these homes had to make a better built and better looking product, which they've done. I've been in a few manufactured homes and could not tell the difference between a stick built home and a manufactured home. |

If you purchase make sure you buy a modular home...not a manufactured home. There is a big difference, modular homes are built to meet local building codes and manufactured are built to meet HUD standards which are much lower than local codes. Wausau builds a very nice modular.

You can go to Stradford Homes and tour the plant as they are building them, it's neat to see.

I have a client that owns a Lumber Company in Madison (Brunsel Lumber) They have been around for 125 years. They have a panel plant that builds houses indoors. If you are interested in talking with him about the Pors and Cons, send me an e-mail and I'll get you in touch. Dominic

One more thing, stay away from any modular home that is built by a manufactured home plant. You will be gravely disappointed if you don't. Wick, Liberty, Redmann, Dutch, Four Seasons, Fuqua are some. The structures on most are in line with a modular but everything else is low quality and they are built with the same labor. Service is not there either. I used to do the warranty service work for the entire manufactured housing industry for 15 years and traveled the entire Mid-West. I quit about 8 years ago because of the way they worked around things and I got tired of the irate homeowners.
