Well, I'd have thought (or was hoping) there was more entrants than 100 at Red Wing.

Now we can definitly see the effects of the economy on the sport of tourney fishing.

Not just the effect of the economy......what about the decision to RAISE entry fees instead of making things more affordable for the touring professional fisherman? I'd say they're a dying breed if this trend continues.

this one goes to the lucky guy that goes out first and ties up in katrinas cut.. instead of it being a tournament its a lottery on who gets the spot.. its no secret the league and another tournament was won on saturday fishing there..

Is that what happened to you ?
How much did the FLW raise the entrance fee since 07 ?

Parts of this discussion has been discussed before. Here is an excerpt from a previous thread when I tried to explain the economic effects of fishing national tournaments. Very hard to make a living at tournaments especially now when many sponsors have eliminated or cut back on their financial support.......

My advice to anyone considering the adventure is to sit down and do the math for expenses versus possible winnings. This has been discussed many times but the economy is making it even more difficult. As an example:

Entry fee = $1500 (add $250 for AIM)

Hotel costs = $400

Food = $150

Bait = $100

Gas = $600

Misc. fishing needs = $150

Boat oil = $40

Total cost of minimum expenses getting by cheaply is usually $3,000 a tournament for national level tournaments.

Now look at payouts for AIM and FLW.

AIM (with a full field) pays $2500 for 11th place

FLW (with a full field) pays $3,500 for 16th-20th (unless you have the right boat and motor, then add $1,000.

No, my decision to not fish tourneys this year, other than a few SWC's and the Fox River Classic, is based on a desire to do other things. Once G3 Boats made the decision to not be a sponsor of the FLW Tour it made my decision easier, as I found myself fishing the last two years only because of the large sum of money and significant boat discount they were handing me instead of doing it because I loved it, which, in hindsight, was for the wrong reason.

I assume you know the answer to your question of me, and to tell you the truth, I'm not in an arguing mood today. I take it you are relatively new to the walleye tournament scene, as I do not recognize your name. Maybe I'm wrong, but I sense someone who is looking for an argument just about every time I see your name here and at other websites......just my opinion. If I'm off base so be it. But I think I've earned the right to complain/comment on the different tours without being taken to task. If my comments regarding you are incorrect I apologize in advance.
