President Obama recently pledged $475 million for Great Lakes cleanup in the coming fiscal year. It's now up to Congress to approve the spending, much of which will be distributed to state and local governments, federal agencies, tribes and nonprofit groups, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Obama is building on blueprints authorized by former President George W. Bush in 2004 and completed in 2005, in a plan known as the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Strategy.
