Location: Green Bay | I'm looking into running duel drift socks off the front kleats. Presently i'm running two five gallon buckets and able to get down to 1.5 -1.8 mph, but i think if i got down a little more i'd be doin a fire drill a little more often, soooo
16.5 foot , 50 hp, console, should i go with 30 " or 24" or bigger?
i 'm struggling with the electronic trolling motor, i guess i'm not that gifted, on inside turns my boards keep running flat then snagging on the sand bottom, then i over compensate, this and that later, i'm yankin on an impossible mess which looks like i'm knitting a pair of socks (this really can't be happening!!?? how the [edit] did this happen ).... I'm catching fish, but i have room for improvemnet, speed being my biggest oppurtunity and challenge.
this board has helped me immensely, i went from not knowing anything to tying my own rigs, riggin a boat, running lines and catching eyes, I'm trying to say.....thanx for the tips

| phishy the one thing you could posible do is have your idle speed adjusted down lower than manuf. spec. I did this with my 16ft lund with 40hp so i could get down to lower trolling speed and it worked great. good luck | |

| I've got 2 25" Drift Control socks. They slow my Tuffy 1890 down plenty. Also helps keep the bow down in the waves.
as for turning with a bowmount, you have to do it in smaller increments. When you turn with a rear mounted motor, the boat wants to follow the keel, so the whole boat turns slower. When you turn with a bowmount, the front of the boat turns immediately, and causes slack in the inside lines. To fix that, turn slower, and in smaller increments. Also, before you begin the turn, put more separation between the boards on the side you are turning to. Then, as you turn, maintain tension on the lines to the middle and outside boards by reeling them in. I try to never allow a board to completely stall if my baits can reach bottom.

Location: Green Bay | what i really want, an electric mount on the outboard motor...seen one at the landing...nice stuff....next boat maybe, this one is too little to spend big money like that.... but i'm catching ...but there is always room for inprovemnet....
I'm thinking i need to go two 24 inch socks, i like using the console, a friend of mine at work suggested using the bow mount in the straight position and steering form the console with the gas motor like a rudder, might work on flat days, I'm just palinly not able to do the supple turns with the foot pad on the bow mount, it ain't working, i keep knitting mono footies....I leave the controls way too often, running lines, missing fish, reeling in fish, clearing weeds, 15 seconds and whammo- 90 degrees to my suddenly inside lines...
I have yet to set the idle lower, another option, but does this the foul plugs?? i'm running 2 cycle 50 hp yahmmy...
Is it Saturday yet???

| For trolling get trolling bags from Amish Outfitters. They work great and hold up to trolling. | |
