Location: Berlin | Stadler and Teske Troll To Victory on Winnebago
When Rob Teske’s 620 Ranger pulled into the docks at Menominee Park more than 40 minutes prior to the official start of the weigh in, Wisconsin FTO Series Director Mark Derricks had a feeling there would be some solid limits coming to the scale. Less than a minute later another 620 rounded the corner and headed in to Millers Bay. Like Teske, team Busching was also in early with fish, big fish. Over the course of the next hour, anglers from Illinois and Wisconsin would cross the Full Throttle stage weighing in on what turned out to be an excellent day on the Winnebago system.
Despite the 25 degree drop in temperature overnight and straight East winds at 15-20 mph, multiple teams cashed in on a great day of fishing. Leading the way and winning their third straight FTO Winnebago system tournament were Rich Stadler of Berlin and Rob Teske of Oshkosh. With not one but two “kicker” Walleyes in their livewell, twin 27 inchers, Stadler and Teske brought a monster bag of Walleyes to the scale which weighed in at 21.31 pounds.
“Our day went very well, but not at all the way Rich and I had planned it,” commented Teske. “We had intended to fish the upper lakes and hit several key locations where we had found really good fish during practice; but when we got there today, the fish were gone. Seriously, we went through options A, B, C, D and E on our best four spots, and we had nothing to show for it. At that point we made a run, defaulted to option Z and hauled out the trolling rods.”
Good thing they did as it paid off big time! For their efforts the two anglers took home an equally monster payday including first place in the Illinois and Wisconsin sides of the tournament, first in the optional side pot, big fish for the tournament and for Teske a $500.00 bonus through the Full Throttle Ranger Cup Program. Total winnings for the two were $4129.00!
In second place were Mark “Big fish” O’Brien and Dave Stadler. The two tipped the FTO scales with an equally impressive limit of Walleyes weighing in at 20.43 pounds. They also caught their fish trolling. The two anglers from Appleton and Omro brought a limit to the scales which were characterized by nearly a 4 pound average, making for an impressive bag of fish. The two took home $1319.00 for the day.
In third was long time Ranger Pro Bob Lauridsen of Oconomowoc and partner Ed Haydin of Cambellsport who weighed in with 16.17 pounds. The two anchored their catch with a 6.45 pounder which they caught trolling.
Lauridsen, currently running his 15th Ranger Walleye boat, commented on stage that he really enjoys the Full Throttle experience. In regards to FTO’s “Faith, Family and Fishing” philosophy Lauridsen replied, “They have their priorities in the right place.” For their efforts on the Winnebago system the two cashed checks worth a total of $952.00.
In fourth were the Busching’s with 15.87. The father son team from Oshkosh and Winneconne, who were the winners of the first Full Throttle event in April, earned $460.00 for their catch. “We had an awesome day on the water,” replied Rich Busching. “I’ll take just shy of 16 pounds in a tournament on this system any day,” replied Rod. The key to their success like the others above them involved trolling on the upper pool lakes of the system.
In the fifth place spot were Dave Ehlke & Duane Haedt Oshkosh and Berlin with a solid limit weighing 14.81 pounds good for $298.00. Unlike the rest of the field the two anglers caught their fish jigging with leeches. “We worked hard all day to get our limit,” commented Elke.
Ray Harris of Mosinee and Greg Hauert of Appleton took home $230.00 for 6th place. Their limit of Walleyes weighed in at 14.3 pounds, which they caught trolling on the southern end of Lake Winnebago. Harris, well known name on the Walleye tournament scene, is one of the tournament organizers for the Midwest Walleye Series, another popular Ranger sponsored tournament trail in Wisconsin. The Full Throttle events provide Ray an opportunity to fish competitively.
Randy Seidl of Appleton & Mike Robetski of Kimberly cashed the final check of the day worth 202.00 for their limit of Walleyes weighing 14.21 pounds. Seidl and Robetski were one of five Ranger owners in the top seven spots to cash checks for the tournament.
June 6th also marked the final season event for the Illinois Walleye Series. Heading into the tournament Ron Levin of Beach Park, Illinois and Aaron Moore of Winthrop Harbor held a five point margin over Paul Fallaw of McHenry and Josh Serginia of Wonderlake. Although Fallaw and Serginia pulled almost 10 pounds for the tournament and narrowed the point difference between the two, it was not enough to overtake Levin and Moore in the final season standings.
Congratulations to Ron Levin and Aaron Moore, 2009 Illinois Throttle Walleye Series Point Champions! For their season long efforts the two anglers earned season ending plaques and a free entry to this year’s Full Throttle Championship in Alexandria, Minnesota! Levin and Moore will compete against the top twenty teams from each Series including the Dakota’s, Minnesota, Wisconsin and their fellow competitors from Illinois in a tournament featuring 100% payback! Congratulations guys!
Next stop for the Wisconsin Series is a trip to the Bay of Green Bay in Green Bay on August 29th. For questions regarding this event please contact WI Series Director Mark Derricks at 920.858.0558.
The Full Throttle Walleye Series would like to thank the following national sponsors Ranger Boats, Mercury Marine and North Star Imaging for their support during the 2009 season. The Wisconsin and Illinois Walleye Series would also like to thank The Binding Edge, Drop -n- Stay Anchors, Ziegler Investment Services & Al Fry, the Fox Valley F.O.C.A.S. Location: Darboy USA | Nice win Rich! Looks like you had to do some running, but it paid off handsomely. Hopefully you guys can keep bringing in new blood, would have liked to have entered this one, but wasn't in the cards. Hopefully next year I can get into a few of the FT events. Keep it up!

Location: Menasha, WI | They say "A Stadler in the boat is better than two in the..." Yeah, at least when they're on the water they're not causing trouble here (or is that treble)... Nice work guys. Those really are some impressive bags; not often you see 2 over 20lbs on the same day.

| What I really want to know is how many bag of potato chips you packed, Rich. There in lies the real answer to your plan for the day.
Congrats on the win, that's a heck of a bag. |

| There were a lot of big fish brought in for such a crappy day. Many teams had one or two beauties, we were just lucky enough to get a few more. Mark did a great job driving the boat and keeping us on fish in that wind, but when we saw Rich and Rob smiling at the weigh-in, we knew we were in trouble.
Kudos to the FT staff, and I believe there were some WFT guys there too spending their Saturday in the rain releasing fish. They all worked hard to put on a great event. My genuine personal thanks to all the folks who fished for showing a lot of class and respect at the rules meeting.

| This was my first tournament with Dave. He did a great job as well. We had a blast. I was a bit worried though when we took off. He used a hard hitting wave as an excuse to try and jump in my lap. Guess maybe I should install a handle on that side for you bud.
I think Rich is right. for sure over 40lbs to win this weekend. Everything should be going. I'd be willing to put my money on trolling as well. Should be a fun weekend.
Good Luck to all! |
