Subject: lindy rig line and hooks

Just wondering what type/brand/test of line and size/brand of hooks people are using when tying thier own live bait/lindy rigs when using leeches? Also what line are you using on your reels?
Thanks

I am no expert but my set-up works well for me. I like to use a Power Pro 8lb moss green main line and a florocarbon leader, usually P-line 8lb floro leader material. For hooks, I like a size 6 live bait hook (sometimes #4 if I missing a bunch of bites). I generally use Mustad or Gamakatsu brand. I also like to use a small 2mm plastic bead or soft glow bead in front of the hook in either red or chartreuse. I always tie a number of rigs with red hooks but I also like to use some of the colored hooks like chartreuse, flourescent pink, green, and glow. To connect the leader to the main line I like to use a high quality #1 ball bearing swivel. If I want the rig to be more adjustable, like a Roach Rig, I will use a 4mm red glass bead behind my sliding weight, a small sized rubber bobber stop, a small #14 or #16 barrel swivel, and a shorter leader, around 2'. I use a glass bead behind the weight because it has a smaller hole diameter than the same sized plastic bead, thus it stops at the rubber stop and doesn't slide over it. I use the small swivel because it isn't as heavy and the short leader so I have more room for adjustment. If your leader is already 6' after the swivel there is no way to adjust it shorter other than cutting and re-tying. At 2' I can keep sliding the stop up the main line allowing for a longer length presentation. Also, with leeches I like to smear them with regular Preperation H (not the cream just the regular formula salve). The stuff drives them crazy and they wiggle like mad. I have also been told that Prep-H has shark oil in it but I have never been able to verify that. For weights I have used about everything but I keep coming back to the Lindy No-Snags or a rattling brass bullet sinker (commonly used for Bass Carolina Rigs). The Fin-Tech sinkers look good too but I have not broken down and bought any so I have no report to give. I hope this helps.

Tight Lines,
Brian
