Location: Sartell, Minnesota | My Dad was the first to teach me the ropes of the art of fishing from a very young age and now that he is getting older (66) I want to return the favor with a special son and father fishing trip in 2010. We are from central MN and I've narrowed it down to fishing Green Bay and would appreciate input for the best time of year and general area's and techniques to get on some quality fish. I'm thinking a trip trolling planer boards during the day and shallow water trolling with cranks at night. I thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Location: Darboy USA | For numbers and some nice fishing (3#-6#) late May into early June would be good and that fishing would be from about Oconto to Dykesville and south into the City of Green Bay. Trolling cranks or spinners and crawlers in the shallower waters near shore. For larger fish (5#-10#), late August to late September and that fishing would be up in Door County around Chambers Island, Larsens Reef, Green Island, Strawberry Island. Again, fishing either spinners and crawlers or cranks.
I would highly recommend a guide for a day or 2 to show you techniques and areas where fish are being caught, you can spend hours fishing unproductive water. It's not rocket science, but these guys know what is going on. One of the best is Lynn Niklasch. He is on the water more than he is off so I would check with him if I were you. | Two other guides I would highly recommend are Brett Alexander of Alexander's Guide service or Greg Wierzba of GMW Guide service. Both of these guides fish Green Bay almost exclusively and probably log more days on Green Bay than any other Green Bay guides. Brett or Greg can set you up with accomadations depending on what part of Green Bay you will be fishing.

| Dale Stroschein, Wacky Wally Guide Service in Sand Bay is a guide and runs the resort too. All the bases are covered and very few have been doing it any longer than him. Sand Bay is just south of Sturgeon Bay, so you'd have to go around Green Bay. Since your planning way in advance, you may as well plan to stay on the west shore, maybe Oconto, & save 2 hrs of driving. Lots of options really. If it is mid week, you'll be able to pull in just about anywhere and get a room. I agree with the posts, early summer the southern bay is where it is at with "relatively" smaller fish, but more numbers. Later is the summer is when the big girls historically bite better and Chambers, Strawberry Is. are usually good bets. It is ironic, your from MN and want to come here a lot of us want to come to Mille Lacs or Vermillion. One final thought, if you do go over towards Sturgeon Bay, you'll have the option to stay in the channel if it really blows and gets rough. If you want it to stay calm, send me $100 and I'll stay off the water, that should guarantee a good bite and good weather!!! As a general rule, crawler harnesses almost always catch fish, start with #5 hammered gold, silver and copper blades with red beads and experiment from there. Crankbaits that work... Anything that says Rapala and Reef Runners, something with purple is usually good. And don't be afraid to fish the top 5 feet of water, even if your over 20 or more. |

Location: Manawa Wiscowsin | I fished with Lynn a year and a half ago. We were fished muskies in Green Bay. In one day, I saw ten muskies, hooked five and landed four. My best muskie trip ever. |
