| The Illinois Walleye Trail conducted its 3rd Tournament of the 2010 season in Spring Valley Illinois on Sunday March 21, 2010. Teams from Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois competed for over $7,000.00 in prize money. The river early in the week was at flood stage of 24 feet in LaSalle but came down nicely for the tournament and on Sunday Morning found the river just under flood stage at 19.99 with water clarity at 8-10 inches. The LaSalle Fish Hatchery personnel came to the tournament site to collect the fish for milking eggs at the hatchery. This has been a real success in re-stocking the Saugers back into the river. For the tournament there was 44 males 109 females. Out of the 203 fish 5 females were spawned out. They made the comment that they are real close to doing their major spawn for the year. The next couple weeks should be a real "Barn Burner" on the Sauger fishing barring any high or dirty water. Winning the tournament was the father and son team from Ladd, IL Tom Giachetto Sr. and Tom Giachetto Jr. with a six fish limit weighing 17.53 Ibs. This earned them $2,200.00 plus as the first Lund boat owner they received $500.00 Lund Loyalty bonus money (complements of Hennepin Marine). The Giachettos were pulling live bait rigs upstream of Spring Valley. Placing second was Dan Palmer and Brian Nicholson with a six fish limit weighing 17.06 Ibs earning them $1,250.00. Dan and Brian from Rockford, IL also had big fish of the tournament with a quality 4.26 Ib Walleye, paying them $420.00. Dan also received a $100.00 gift certificate (compliments of Hennepin Marine). Dan and Brian caught their fish with live bait rigs in the Spring Valley area. Third place honors went to the brothers Gary and Bruce Merkel from Spring Valley with 14.95 Ibs earning $875.00. Compliments of Woodstock Line two 200 yd. spools of 18 Ib leadcore went to Randy Carroll and Shawn O'Malley. Woodstock Line also donated 2 turtle-neck shirts to the team of Brian and Mark Mazur. IWT March 21 2010 Tournament Results
