| I have a 96 Tuffy Rousabout with a long shaft 25hp.I am a big guy with 2 deep cycle batteries in the back of the boat.The front has a maxxum trolling motor and a 3 gallon gas tank.When I open open the motor there is a cough like it is missing the clean water it needs to proform properly.There seems to be a Big V of air behind and in front of my engine shaft.Is this normal for the hull design ? Does anyone else have this problem besides(basscaster). I understand if you don't want to advertise this problem, then just pm me. Thanks. | |

| If you had a problem with air getting into the blades the motor wouldn't cough, it would scream. You'd have max rpms and no speed. Sounds like a motor that needs some tuning up to me. I'm guessing it's an old carb type motor and not an EFI or DFI, right? | |

I agree with the above. If you are getting cavitation, it would be more than a cough. You'd lose grip win with the prop, and your RPM's would go up a lot, even with a 25HP. If you are having a difficult time getting on plane, try to put some of your gear forward in the boat. Make sure the motor is not set on a pin that tilts too far out. Also, when on plane, see if the cav plate is at the surface of the water, or not. Other than that, and making sure the motor is tuned good, and the prop is in good shape, is about all your going to get out of the 25HP on that boat. | |

| I am guessing on a 25hp motor you are running aluminum prop, which may be flexing not allowing it to perform the way it should. Maybe try and lighten the boat up as much as possible and see if you still have the problem, just distributing the weight may help as well. | |
