Just wanted to thank all the fishermen who took the kids out fishing in Montello this past weekend. 114 happy kids made it onto the water to fish and drive boats...it was a great sight!

How did it go RNT? Did you get the 25k people on opening weekend of fishing season to discover Montello like you expected? A big congrats to the pro fisherman for donating their time, it takes special people to do something like this for our youth without expecting anything in return!

Good Luck

Were those 7000 throughout the day or at one given event? What was the most popular event if you had to summarize something? Did the fishing dominate with all the kids and their parents and how much revenue did the other activities generate for the local shops? As the promoter/administrator of the event what would you do different to get those other 18,000 people you wanted on the opening weeekend of fishing season?

Good Luck

I had an absolute blast with the kids, and even some of their parents. These kids learned skills they will have with them the rest of their lives. Would I donate my time again...absolutely!

Attached are a couple of pics from the weekend. Yes I lost the bet....

The 7000 were what was counted for both days in two of the areas. They did not count the crowds in the businesses or by the pros... The biggest hits were the carnival, helicopter rides and the pros taking the kids fishing...the hot air balloons could not take off because of the wind and the rest of the event was vendors. The carnival made 1/2 the money in one day that they would at a good County Fair...and they were selling tickets at 1/2 the price because of the deprived area. All the local shops stated that May 1st was by far the busiest day they have ever had since they opened their doors for business. Yahooz went through 80 pounds of hamburger meat by 3:00 alone.

I ended up with 93 vendors and most can't wait until next year to try it again. The only thing I would do different would be layout, one park was a bit far to walk to and lost some vendors because of it but 75% of them e-mailed me saying they would follow the event no matter where it went. I don't mean to pat my own back but they stated they have never seen a first time event run so smooth, so well organized and receive such a large crowd especially in an economically deprived area...it was great!

Some other mayors were there and contacted me yesterday about trying to duplicate what happened in Montello in their cities. It even made the Madison news on Sunday. I do believe that it will grow the amount I am aiming for within three years. There were no bands or music and beer was not pushed (both days only 12 cases were sold) and it still drew that sized crowd.

I want to thank you personally Robert, both my boys had a blast with you and my 6 year old refuses to allow my wife to wash his shirt you signed. There were kids that came from Milwaukee and Chicago to fish with the pros.

I agree with Robert had a great time and enjoyed all the smiles, both kids and adults. I welcome the opportunity to do it again.

From everything I've heard - it was an awesome event - Thanks to all involved for pulling it off - Most will never know how much planning and effort goes into something like this! Kudos to you all!

Please tell us who all the anglers were that took out the kids.

Thanks!

For anyone that wants a giggle here is the proclamation Gov. Doyle signed about Moose Fest. The pro fishermen are mentioned on it also.
